The New Birth Control Patch....

  1. I saw on t.v. today a commercial about the new birth control patch that is now available instead of popping the daily BC pill as in years past. Women can now slap on the patch and not worry about it for thirty days (I think I got the timing right, if not.....I'm sure to be corrected. :chuckle)

How many of you are considering trying it, or maybe you already have been using it for awhile???

Any women you know of using it get pregnant by using it?

It's suppose to be 99% is the pill, and I know plenty of women who got pregnant using the pill REGULARLY...not just a skip a day kind of thing, but really really taking the pill...and still got preggo.

Okay....inquiring mind just wanting to hear some viewpoints on this subject, that's all. :kiss

You change it q7days. It's supposed to be very effective, HOWEVER.....................................patien ts have been complaining that the patch doesn't stay on "worth a crap." Lots of my moms are asking about it now.

Ahhhh... interesting. I'd wondered about this. I mean, they show the woman just a-showerin' away with a perfectly intact patch, but.....

I think I'll stick with my trusty pill....

I was also not so sold on the fact that a woman could shower with it on without it coming off, or go swimming with it on without losing it in the pool. When I saw that on the commercial....I was like.....yeah right.....sure it sticks without coming loose or losing its effectiveness. :chuckle

Shay......thanks for the correction on the number of days the patch is worn before it needs changing.

I'm gonna try it starting this month .... I figure I'm not having sex so I'm not concerned about the b/c part (Not married & just need the happy hormone ) I'll let you all know how it goes. Supposedly only 2-3% of the patches came off & they give you a spare patch (in the sample). As long as you put a new patch on w/in 2 days you're supposed to be ok. (I think... going to reread the directions as I was drinking at the time )

I say Depo is better. The problem witht he patch is that anyone can see it and a lot of my women don't want their husbands or fathers to know they are using birth control.

Plus Depo is good for 3 months!

But I've heard that you can gain a lot of weight on that ... is that true? (like 20 lbs +) Of course for me I don't care if anyone sees a patch .... heck where I'm going to put it noone will see it

side note:i think welfare should come in 3moth increments...get your depo or no $$$

With apologies for the turn of the conversation...

Don't you bleed pretty steady for the first month or two on Depo? I have heard from a lot of friends that you do, but when you stop, you don't start again (until you get off the depo.)

I also figured with the patch that there would be a cover patch (like for catapres, and those seem to stay on very well for the whole week.) I know they don't show a cover patch in the commercials; agree that without one I can't see it staying on that long.

Myself...I used the pill over any other birth control mechanisms on the market. daughters have tried the Depo shots, but had to stop taking them due to it increasing their blood pressure to a dangerous level.

I could see them being willing to try the patch. I'll see what their feelings on the patch are......well, the younger two anyway since the oldest daughter's hubby got himself "snipped". :chuckle

Give me about 3 weeks and I'll let you know how it stays on.
