The 'kid' is still in all of us...

  2. When was the last time you let the "kid" in you out?

On July the 4th, we had a huge water balloon fight.

I created the teams ... teens against adults...

    The rules were simple...

    - the playing field was a little smaller than a basketball court
    - the teams were segregated ... the teens where on one side the adults on the other
    - in the middle was a huge wheel barrel full of water balloons (about 300-400)
    - to throw a balloon one must RUN into the center and RUN back to their own side before throwing their balloon
    - you can only grab 1 balloon at a time
    - anyone throwing a balloon before they reached their side was subject to the firing squad*

    * the firing squad was everyone throwing a water balloon to that one person who broke the rules

As you can imagine, it was the loudest and funniest thing ever. I thought I was being smart when I created the teams - teens against adults.

What a mistake! In the first 5 minutes all the adults were gasping for air getting hit by balloons. We were all soaked!

Yes, we had a few people who faced the firing squad - my wife was one of them. hahahaha

That sounds like a whole lotta fun. I would be right in there. And, would be one of the ones planning a devious trick to circumvent the rules. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!

I love games like this. Last time we had anything like this was tossing raw eggs.

oooh, raw eggs ... sounds like fun

Yeah, you have partners. Start out close together and toss the egg to each other. Step apart further and toss.......further apart and toss.........further apart and toss..........and, so on until when you toss the egg, it breaks.

You can imagine how I'd try and circumvent those rules. LOL!!!

Yeah, you probably would, sirI!!! LOL!!!

For my money water fights are quite possible the most fun you can have without getting arrested. One time the entire apartment complex my family and I lived got into this ginormous water battle, kids and adults alike.........it started out with squirt pistols and rapidly escalated into a free-for-all with tumblers full of water, Super Soakers, water balloons, and even garden hoses. NO ONE was safe---not even the little elderly couple who lived three doors down from us, who joined in when a stray water balloon slammed into their front door and he opened it to see what was going on. Looking back, it still cracks me up to remember how it was with 60-70 grown people and countless numbers of kids running around the complex with water, lurking in dark breezeways to strike any innocent party who went by, and bombing each other from second-floor balconies.

Last time I let the "kid" in me out was today!
DGS - 8 months - visited with DD and I had fun playing "aeroplanes" with DGS.
DD watched bemused as her 60 something mother scooted around the room making "wheee ... Woooo ... Whoosh... vrrrooom" sounds, with DGS splayed out across my arms twisting, turning, dipping and "flying" in the air!
DGS giggled and squealed and dribbled a treat!
    Nana had fun too!

Can't wait until he's older for the water games fun!

In 2003 i played a game with my cousins then three year old and his five year old cousin. It involed crawling on the floor, roaring like a bear, hiding under a bed, and other three year old silliness with rules added as the game went on.

Just weeks ago he surprised my saying he remembers it!
He is a wonderful young teen now. LOVES his grandma! And her cousin.

When my soon to be twelve year old boy was little and it was his bedtime I would stand by the couch where he was and yell out (like saying "all aboard") "Mommy train! woooo-wooooo" and we would "chuga-chuga" to his bed with him riding on my back giggling. Grace, thanks for bringing back that nice memory.

    Today!

At the end of soccer camp, all the parents were told to line up at the end of the soccer field and we would play "Cowboys and Indians". The kids had been told while the ending ceremonies were going on "shhh, don't tell your parents what this means". so of course all the parents wondered.

The kids lined up on both sides of the field and the parents had to run from one and to the other while the kids kicked the balls at us. We also had to do lines from Austin Powers, complete with movements - "I'm foxy Cleopatra and I'm a whole lotta woman" (the men were chosen to do this and my husband got chosen). I got hit the first time across. My husband was one of the last 3 left standing, all men. That's when he got to do the "Foxy Cleopatra" line.

    Fun.
