The Dangers of Bungee Jumping

  1. The dangers of bungee jumping.

Al and Joe really enjoyed bungee-jumping and went nearly every weekend.

One day Al said, "Joe, you know, we could make a lot of money renting our own bungee-jumping service in Mexico. They don't have it there."

Joe said "Great idea! Let's do it!"

So they pooled their money and bought everything they needed ... a tower, bungee cords, insurance, etc., and headed off to Mexico. When they arrived they found the perfect place to construct their tower in the town square and began to set things up.

People began to stop to watch them work as they were constructing the tower. More and more people gathered until there was such a crowd that Joe and Al decided that it would be a good idea to give a demonstration after they finished setting everything up and get people interested in trying it themselves.

They climbed up to the platform and a hush fell over the crowd. Everyone watched in puzzled curiosity and amazement. Joe helped Al fasten the bungee cords to his ankles and stood with him at the front of the platform. Al leaned forward, went over the edge, and the crowd gasped loudly at his sudden fall.

Al bounced at the end of the cord, but when he came back up, Joe noticed that he had a few cuts and scratches. Joe wasn't able to catch him, and he fell again, bounced, and came back up. Joe was horrified to see that he was bruised and bleeding and tried desperately to grab hold of him. Joe was beside himself when he wasn't able to get a grip on Al. He watched him fall several more times. Each time Al bounced back up to the platform, he was more injured than the time before.

Finally Joe got a good grip on him and pulled him onto the platform where they fell amid a tangle of bungee cords. By this time Al was nearly unconscious, bleeding profusely from several large wounds, and it was apparent that he had a couple of badly broken bones.

Joe panted, "What happened? Was the cord too long?"

Barely able to speak, Al gasped, "No, the bungee cord was fine ...... it was the crowd ...... what the he.. is a pinata?"
