The After Christmas Sales

  1. Did any of you shop on the 26th? I don't ussually, but did this year just at Target. I was surprised by all the nice things at 50% off---I bought several very nice things for gifts for next year. Than on my way into work I stopped off at a Hallmark store--and once again so much stuff that was 50% off really nice stuff---so I got some more things for next year.

They said on the news how no one was shopping, but it seemed very busy in my area. I saw quite a few people I knew too which was neat.

I'd say I have about half of my shopping done for next year including really neat cards & stationary.....how sick is that!

Well, if they weren't shopping in your area, that's probably because they were in MINE, buying up all the Christmas decorations and wrapping paper before I could get there!! :angryfire I couldn't believe it: when I got to K-Mart around 3 PM, there were approximately 5 rolls of paper, eight or ten sets of lights, and a couple of sad-looking wreaths. That was all. I usually go shopping in the afternoon the day after Christmas and have no trouble finding next year's wrapping paper and lights for a song; this year, the sale price was 50% off, and there was nothing left. Phooey.

DON'T EVER TALK ABOUT BOXING DAY!!! I had to go to wallmart for my mom, there was a printer on sale. I arrived there an hour too early, and there was already like 50 people waiting in line. When the doors opened, EVERYBODY was pushing, it was pure madness.:angryfire So I make my way to the electronics dept., with difficulty, and THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE ******* PRINTER!:angryfire I waited in the freezing cold FOR NOTHING! :angryfire No more boxing day for me!

Sorry to hear some of you didn't have a good experience....I'm wondering if there is anything left now!? Before I'd go a week after Christmas and there would still be some stuff....but not the best stuff ya know?!

Some people were pushing here also, but I just let it slide...but you see I didn't intend to get anything like some of you guys did.

Box Day....I've not heard that before...is that what it's called? Where did that come from??

In Canada, we call december 26th "Boxing Day". I think it's the same in the U.S.

Nope, we don't have Boxing Day.

I thought Boxing Day had something to do with giving gifts to the servants who had had to work on Christmas Day? Or giving alms from the "poor box" to the needy?

I think it is a holiday for the Commonweath nations.....

But I'll take another holiday! Can we have it in March? We need one then.....

In answer to the OP, I didn't shop much before Christmas, I haven't shopped since Christmas, and I decided to boycott Target until they let the Salvation Army back. (I don't think Target is too worried about missing my business....) I got my few gifts purchased last February and March when there were sales on. I'll probably do that again.

As I said in one of the other posts that I have written so far today, I am going to my favorite scrapbook and stamp store and buy stuff so that I can work on Chirstmas cards all year so I will have plenty to send out by thanksgiving time......just remember Christmas is just 11 + months away LOL

You make your own cards! That is so cool!!! Some day I'd like to get going on some crafts again...there is something that is done with small strips of paper---they are rolled tightly and made into designs---I'd like to learn how to do that.

One gal I work with makes her own cards also as a business. For gifts she gives assorted cards that she has made...very Nice!
