Tell me about that home treadmill you bought!

  1. Hi all!

I am getting pretty desperate to lose weight and was considering buying a treadmill for my house. I guess I'm trying to figure out how likely it is to work!

I have a treadmill that I purchased two years ago and its currently a nice place to hang clothes - lol! Seriously, I do think I will use it once I get done with school in May. (I'd better).

I have a treadmill i bought about two years ago, i really only use it in the winter when i really can't exercise outside. IF you are buying one buy the best you can afford. My adjusts to different grades but i have to manually do it by adjusting the legs of it, what a pain! Buy one that adjusts electronically. I wish i could afford one like at my gym but i don't have thousands of dollars to spend.

I had one of those older type non-motorized treadmills. It lasted a month before it got dropped off at the thrift store.

If i had the space, i'd get one that folded up against the wall. Till then i'll use the one at the gym.

As for losing weight, it worked for me.

Ya'll are not gonna believe what my treadmill is currently being used for!

My daughter has 2 show goats. She and my husband rigged the treadmill up so that the "tread" portion is enclosed with a fence-like barrier and they have her goats workout on it about 4-5 days a week to build up their muscles!

It's a slow, steady pace, so the goats aren't like having to run or anything but it really has helped!

It's the weirdest thing to look out (they've got it on our back porch) while you're doin' dishes and see this goat walkin' on a treadmill!

There should be an option on the poll "It's an expensive rack for my clothes". That's what my aunt uses hers for.

We bought one a couple of months ago from Sears. My husband needs to lose some weight due to metabolic syndrome and I need to lose weight due to eating too much food.

I use it about 3 times a week. My husband has used it twice. He works out of town all week and on the weekend is busy with repairs on his logging truck and just never thinks about it. One of the reasons may be it is in the basement and maybe it needs to be in the living room in front of the tv.

IF you make it a discipline to use it and you watch what you eat, you can lose weight.

I also do some weights on a weight bench my older sons left when they moved. I have one of those exercise balls to do sit-ups on too.

Whatever you choose, it is a choice to use it.

I absolutely love my treadmill!! I started running Last January and then got serious about running in the summer but the concern where I live is due to the weather you can't always get outside to exercise and I also have two younger kids I have to figure out what to do with if I go for a run. Buying the treadmill was the best is fully electronic and has cushioned steps with a continuous horse power moter ( apparently better choice if you are going to run longer miles on the tread mill) So during the week I run on the treadmill and when my husband is home on the weekends I try to get out on a road run. I average 4-5times a week of running. I really love it! for weight loss. I lost 35 pounds before running on the weight watcher plan and walking and some aerobic workouts- nothing serious. My husband on the weightwatcher plan lost 80 pounds with out exercising. He currently now worksout at the gym 3 times a week. My best advice is exercise and change of eating habits will lead to weight loss. But as with everything dedication is the key. Our weight loss did not happen overnight but over a longer period of time, the key is we have kept it off and in turn completely changed our eating habits and lifestyle. Regular exercise can really influence weight loss and weight management. Good luck in your endeavors, we were able to do it and I am sure you can too!! Amy

I got mine several years ago. It's a foldable type which is nice. I used it daily for months when I first got it, then 3 days a week when I added an aerobics with weights routine.

I didn't lose much in the way of weight when I used just the treadmill mostly inches, but when I added a diet I started losing. Then adding the weight training and it came off faster. Endurance increased, definitely.

I took a sabbatical from dieting and exercise, much to my regret, and when I went back to the treadmill, the motor broke. DH eventually got around to fixing it and I got back in earnest. Then I broke my foot. I actually look forward to getting back to it. Last time I used it I was running, not walking.

ANYWAY. My point is that I used it and it was a great gateway to fitness for me. To avoid the boredom, I used CDs and books on tape to keep me going. I don't like tv all that much and to hear it over the motor you have to keep it pretty loud.

I like the ones at the gym where there is a TV in front of them. I can catch up on the news, and not stare at a blank wall while i'm working out.

Funny topic, thanks, made me flash back thru my life and all the equipment and gyms and resolutions I've gone thru (chuckle) with little or no success, or nothing that ever lasted. I've just about given up. Sigh...

Great thread - thanks for starting it. I've been seriously considering getting a treadmill and wondered if anyone actually uses them after the first month or so.

Kelly, I would LOVE to see a photo of the goats on the treadmill. That is too funny.
