Technology.......What do YOU have in your house??

  1. Remember when we were kids? You were outside sun up to sundown......if I did something 6 blocks away they spanked me and then called my mom so she could meet me half way with the belt and spank me all the way home........Now you can't let kids play outside like that anymore and god forbid any uptight moron who can't discipline their child disagree with how you discipline yours or you might be sitting in jail for child abuse........The whole ponit of this thread is that we are a technology age......I would be lost without my cell phone and computer so what do YOU have in your house?

We have a 3 bedroom house.......the living room has TV, DVD, VCR, and playstation.......my room has TV/VCR Combo and the 2 computers.......my daughters room has a TV and VCR........my sons room has TV/VCR combo, nintendo 64, and computer. For Xmas we are getting a PS2 for the living room so the DVD can come to our bedroom and the regular playstation in my little girls room...

I know that my family lives in a technological age and we have all the gadgets and gizmos.......it's a fact.......I live in a decent neighborhood, but I don't let my kids outside unless I am very close by.....there are too many crazies so we do lots indoors.....well I have opened up this can......how bout you guys???

I agree Robin. My son isn't outside unless I'm with him. I remember being young, getting on my bike and just going... I would have a hard time doing that with my son. He can ride his bike or rollerblade up and down our dead end street only if I'm working in the front yard, or cleaning my car, etc. When I do my walk a couple of times a week, he's either on his bike or rollerblades (encourages me to keep a good pace). And we go to the park at the end of our street to do stuff (i'll read, he'll run), but he's always in my sight. So it's not like I never let him out, I just have a problem letting him run unsupervised, like I was allowed to.

Inside we have a virtual playland. In the living room are: computer, playstation, N64, super nintendo, tv, vcr, and dvd.

There is a tv/vcr combo in each bedroom.

We have an extra super nintendo floating around somewhere.

you know robin........that is exactly how life was when i was a little girl. if another adult......be they a neighbor, other relative, stranger who lived down the street......whatever.......if the person was an adult and told my parents that one of their six children did something, not only was that adult allowed to inflict disciplinary measures on us, but we had to face being spanked or scolded by our parents as well. amazing , wasn't it? now, today, things are just as you describe them to be. sooooooo totally opposite from yesteryear.

when my children were growing up, i did the total opposite from what my parents did with my siblings and i. i always believed my child first....then if i later found out that my child lied, then and only then were they punished.

my children played safely outside where we lived, and nothing ever happened in our neighborhood...no break ins, no wild parties, no loitering, nothing of significance that was of the negative nature.....for that i am so grateful. however....i find myself constantly warning my children not to allow their children that same freedom of wandering around outside unmonitored.....no matter where they may be.......things may look safe in our neighborhoods.........but those days are gone......as proven by children who are being snatched from their own bedrooms in the middle of the night. who is taking our children and why are the crooks so hard to track down?

we own a lot of the modern day gadgets, too, but i could do without all of them except my telephone and microwave. gotta talk, and gotta nuke me some din-din cause cooking the long way is not my forte anymore.

We have two computers, a playstation 2, Sega dreamcast, nintendo 64, dvd, CD burners, and of course cell phones.
But even with all the technology still I miss the 'old days'
when neighbors could discipline you and you could roam freely.
It does take a village to raise a child, but it seems those days are over....

What if those adult neighbors lied to your parents about your behavior? I recall one lady who loved to do this in our neighborhood. My siblings and I got in big trouble once because she lied to our parents about us being across the street in this field when we weren't. Really we weren't. She just had NOOOOOO life whatsover, so she always had to stick her nose where it didn't belong........It would have been okay had she always told the truth and nothing but the truth, but she was just a trouble maker, but my parents believed her over us because "she was the adult......we were the kids".

    Ahhhhh....technology

In my house we have a 19" tv in the Kitchen...off when we are all eating dinner together. (at least 3-4 times a week),
Game room....a new 53" Sony TV, DVD player. satallite reciever
Kids room....a 25 inch tv Nintendo 64, sony paystation 1 and playstation 2, vcr, satallite reciever, 2 game boys...color and 2 game boys advance., and a computer.
Mother in laws bedroom...19 inch tv (offered her a larger one but refused) satallite reciever
my home office...one desk top computer 2 laptops, and 9 inch color tv.

Surprisingly I do not have a tv in my bedroom nor do I have a phone in there......

As for the kids they are only allowed to play with the computer and game sysyems during the school year on weekends and during the summer I limit the time to a few hours a day also. I also enfrce a bed time during the school year.

Wow - it's weird to think of all the STUFF I've got. In the family room, is my computer and a linux box on this desk, and the cast-offs of about three others that we've had from time to time. A rack with all parts and pieces. I used to be a computer lady and I made our first computer out of good parts from no-good computers from work. I've got a printer in here, but that's about it - my computer has a CD PLAYER but no burner. Poor Dennie.

In Meg's room is her computer, her TV, her DVD, her video camera, and some computer equipment that she's rigged up to edit videos. She's got a video camera on her computer, and she's got some music stuff hooked up, too. She doesn't have a CD burner, either, but somehow she gets her MP3's onto tape that she can play in the car (no CD players in the car)

In the living room - no technology. I'd envisioned that as a reading type room, but it's HARD to get it light enough in there to read!!! Plus a very ugly and very uncomfortable sofa, but there's a very very nice recliner, but it's too big for me. My bedroom has nothing technical of any description. Not even a radio-alarm. I've got a battery-powered clock/alarm. There's very little electricity in there - I don't know where I'm gong to put my BiPAP machine, which will be the highest tech thing there.

Sometimes we put the discarded TV from Meg's room (She's not spoiled, really she's not. LOL - it was Christmas, TV's were on sale for like $50 and I HAD to get one!!!) in the living room (in front of the recliner) and look at videotapes there.

I used to have a Palm Pilot, but it died a couple of weeks ago. I haven't adjusted yet at all! I do have a cellphone - and I would NOT go without one! I think we should all be issued one at birth!!!!

Dennie! Where did you get the picture of that cat?!!!
  13. by Robin61970
Okay Dennie.....Where the HELL did that...CAT??? come from? LOL.......it's HUGE!!!!!!
  14. by NurseDennie
    Yeah, he's a big kitty, isn't he?

He was one of three kittens that they found wild at an atomic energy generator thingie. He's the biggest of the three, and the mama cat didn't make it.

    Love

    Dennie

P.S. If you forward this as an email to every person you know, then Bill Gates will invent a product that will be able to monitor EVERY isp in the world and track your email and will give you four cents for every person you forward it to, and two cents for every person THEY forward it to, and if you do it right, in exactly 42 hours, you'll recive $120,422 from Bill Gates. Yeah, right. MS has done so well with the whole operating system thing, don'tcha think?

I just slay myself. LOL - it's a FAKE picture!! Picture of a normal kitty being held by a normal KID - then dad took the kitty out of the kid picture and superimposed the kitty (bigger) onto HIM. It's a pretty believable story, though, don'tcha think?

    Love (again)
