Talk about any trained monkey...

  1. i always get bent out of shape whenever i hear this saying about nurses & their duties...whether here on these bbs or elsewhere.

however, on a funnier note, i just saw an episode of amazing animal videos which is aired on the animal planet channel...lord & behold, there was a segment where a monkey was assisting a vet with "nursing tasks". well you could imagine my surprise & disbelief; my jaw hit the desk , then the floor & back.

this animal assists with calming down "his" patients plus he holds & comforts them while they receive treatment from the doc. he also is responsible for feeding the patients...the show points out that he never swipes any of their kibbles either. he assist in keeping the animal cages clean & in order...& he never "argue" with the doc either.

this "nurse" type monkey has a lot of caring in his little finger than a lot of human nurses that i've worked with...lol. we better watch-out...the way this saying keeps getting thrown around (& by some nurses at that)...more doctors just might think twice. :uhoh21:

of course, i'm certainly not condoning this saying by no means ...but i thought i would never see the day when i actually see a real "trained monkey" doing real "nursing tasks"....just wanted to share...lol!!!

let me apologize to those who find no humor in this...i just thought that some might.

I think God's critters provide a soothing affect no matter how they are used. This fact has been proven time and time again. It's proven that pets can lower BP and stress levels. I think this should be used more often than it is. Nothing is as precious as holding a critter in your arms and feeling their unconditional love and gentleness. It's hard to be sad with a precious puppy licking your hand or a kitten purring in your ear. Just my thoughts!

I guess this is what the general public WANTS nurses to be....like puppies or monkeys with unconditional love for them. If only we didn't have those pesky practice acts and lawyers lookin' to sue us, eh? Then we could just be the cutesy little teddy bear (monkey) types that folks really 'want' us to be.....too bad we need a brain to do the 'real' job of nursing. The job the public doesn't know or care much about.

I love this quote but don't know who said it. "If caring was enough, anybody could be a nurse."

That quote came from an ad campaign in the 80's to recruit nurses, and to signify that a reasonable amount of intellect was also needed to be a nurse. It was also designed to promote nursing's image.

Predictably, Jean Watson, the founder of the Caring Theory of nursing, was deeply disturbed by that message.

    Sorry for butting in.

You guys are right....the monkeys would have MUCH better working conditions than us because all their animal rights organizations would see to it! LOL!

We need more "Nurse Rights" Activists! Pretty sad when the critters are treated better than us, eh? But hey..we're animals too so maybe we should solicit their help....

Hey Mattsmom....you got my vote! You know folks donate a lot of money to save the animals! Maybe we could start a campaign to SAVE A NURSE ...as nurses are becoming an endangered species...:chuckle
