Sweet Sixteen

  1. it has been 26 years ago since i was 16 but i remember myself and many teenage-girls waiting for their 16th birthday.

although the gifts i received, especially from my mom, and other family members etc., the thing i most wanted was to be able to receive "company" that year!

my only daughter turns 16 on january 23 and i am wanting to do something special for her.

my sister's daughter turned 16 on last year and she had a "party" for her and invited two of her close friends, which included my daughter, at a nice hotel with an adjorning room for my sister and my daughter loved it.

what made your 16th birthday special, what did you or will you do for your daughther's 16th birthday.

any ideas for me to ponder?

    thanks in advance.

Stephany, I went out on a DATE that night.. my first date.. as I couldn't date until I was 16 so I will always remember that DATE !

    I think a party is a great idea !

Well I never was a girlie-girl, but even so I might have enjoyed a pampering day. If nothing else I would have enjoyed the one-on-one attention with mom. Things like getting a haircut, manicure, acrylic fingernails, facial, new outfit, new shoes, massage, etc.

A trip to the music or book store and mom alongside to listen to me tell what bands or books I like and why, and then be allowed to pick out any one I wanted, no questions asked.

Definitely a boy-girl party somewhere "cool". Rounding everyone up and heading to the movies together, no chaperone?

Don't know if she drives yet, but the KEWLEST thing I got for my 15th birthday was a homemade certificate in a card from mom and dad, saying I finally had permission to take Drivers Ed. Up til then I'd always been told it wouldn't happen til I was 16, so that was *totally* appreciated!

Also on Year 15 I got my very own phone in my room. Not my own phone LINE, but my own phone.

Jeez, as I sit thinking about these things, today's kids are generally much more spoiled than I was! LOL I'm thinking none of things would appeal to today's 16 year old.

I must have been a lucky girl - for my 16th birthday I got my own car. Granted it wasn't a new car (6 years old), but it was my car! It was a beautiful 1973 Monte Carlo. I will never, ever forget that birthday - the coolest I ever had!

The first thing that happened on my 16th birthday is my father had bought me a guitar for my birthday. Still have it to this day and I cherish it muchly. Then my parents had a pizza party at my favorite pizza joint for my girlfriends. The next day was another of my girlfriends birthdays and we had a pool (pocket) in my basement. We had parties together until we graduated high school. A great time was had by all.:roll :roll
