    yes folks, it's that time!
weellll..... it is here in australia! :icon_cheesygrin: :santa5: :icon_cool: :santa1:

tonight we'll be attending midnight mass at the cathedral in the city, preceeded by the singing of carols at 2300. before that we plan on driving past the houses all decked out and lit up for christmas and have a ganders at the pretty lights. the gifts are all wrapped, the food is all bought and ready for preparing and cooking tomorrow. the christmas music is playing on the cd player. my brother phoned and wished us merry christmas & invited us to visit in the coming days and meet up with my niece's & nephew's, (including grand niece's & nephew's :icon_lol: ), who are visiting from interstate and we've not seen in a few years. even though he won't be home for christmas, ds is still in country and hasn't been deployed overseas (yet!), sooooo we have much to be joyful about!

    and ................. we've had rain!!!
the weather is cooler. why, i've even got the heater on! in the middle of an australian summer! :icon_rolleyes: :icon_cool: :icon_lol: incredible! tomorrow is predicted to be another cool day too. great for cooking the turkey! hopefully other states will also receive good rain and the bushfires will abate.

    wishing everyone a safe-happy-healthy-joyous-christmas!

    cheers.................... :santa5: :ball: :santa1:

    Merry Christmas Eve, Grace.

Your post frightened me, though. I thought I got behind. I forgot to get some stuffing ingredients and will have to grab some tomorrow. You made me think we weren't going to have a proper stuffing.

Chats, I'll wish you a Merry Christmas Eve tomorrow. :Santa3: :Reindeer:

Merry Christmas eve everyone. I can't believe it's a-comin'. Gotta go to bed now. Too tired and falling asleep over the keyboard. Will try to get back here later this evening when I return from dinner at Db's. Hope you all have a God-blessed day.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD Evening/Morning/Afternoon!! Santa is most certainly on his way tonight!!! Woot!!! :Santa2: :Holly2: :Holly2:

We drove out to Oceanside to spend an early Christmas with mil . . stopped by Buffalo Brothers, a WONDERFUL stringed instrument shop in Carlsbad!! Got a Christmas CD that is EXCELLENT! We're listening to it now, it's Christmas Guitars, by Paul Johnson. His own arrangements of Christmas songs, multiple recordings of him playing different acoustic guitars, and it is just FABULOUS!! I did a little digging and found out he's been playing guitar since the 60's, and is famous for Mr. Moto, Wipeout and other surfer songs. Right now he plays in the group The Duo-Tones. VERY TALENTED MAN!!! Anyway, he does have a website: Paul Johnson's Guitar Heaven and a lot of his work is available there for listening (and downloading, I believe).

I shuttled the kids to different parties after we got home from Oceanside, and dh and I were going to hear a jazz band at a local restaurant, but it got cancelled, so we're here at home: dh is installing a 5th string capo on a banjo, and I'm multi-tasking: eating and 'puting!! Soon, though, I'll wrap the Santa gifts, ready for distribution tomorrow nite (it's Sat nite now).

Almost was involved in an accident on the way home from Oceanside. Some small car, while merging to my right, *apparently* didn't see my HUGE EXPEDITION and just almost merged right into me!!! I braked and ended up moving a little into the lane to my left, to avoid being hit, as he just KEPT COMING!!! I'm fairly sure he did NOT see me. Dh says I squealed the brakes, which I don't remember, . . All I remember is thinking "That guy is coming over and is NOT stopping, I gotta MOVE!!! without flipping us!! without hitting anyone else!! YIKES!!!" Got a great adrenalin rush.

    But we're OK, praise God.

Well, I better wrap gifts. Bless you all. --- D

It is still the 23rd here, but Happy Christmas Eve to those who are currently observing that day. I made make ahead mashed potatoes today, but I think I fluffed them too much. There's not much heft to them. I'm wondering if I should boil a couple extra potatoes and add them in to stiffen up the mixture.

We're having ham this year, and I picked that up today. Tomorrow, I'll pick up the banana cream pie that is our traditional Christmas dessert. My son's school had an international foods day and he discovered a prosciutto and mozzarella roll that he requested we have for our appetizer on Christmas Day. I couldn't believe it when he told me that he tasted haggis at the same event. In a million years, he wouldn't try haggis if I put it on the table here at home (although, I wouldn't do that in a million years, either!)

i'm not from louisiana but think dirty rice is made when you saute the "holy trinity", diced onions, green peppers, and celery in grease meat was cooked in. you can add green onion, parsley, red pepper, salt and black pepper to taste or ready miked creole seasoning. add water and cook rice.
