Sunday 17th December, 2006

  1. g'day from "down under!" it's sunday! really! it is!!

here's how we started our sunday in the land "down under!" ............

    up close and personal ...............

............... with dolphins! that's what we were this morning! dh and i drove to the beach at 0630, took the two dogs with us and started out walking along the shoreline.

we came across a flock of seagulls in a frenzy on the surface of the water. there must have been literally hundreds of them. flapping their wings, diving into the water and fluttering and flipping
all over the place. reminded me of a scene from the movie; "the birds". it was awesome and amazing to see. i was wishing i'd brought the camera.
dh recognised this behaviour as a feeding frenzy. he was right! those birds were feasting on little fish called "white bait".
dh made the comment; "no wonder the great white sharks come in close and attack people with such a smorgasboard of fish available".
just then we noticed a fin in the water. then two, then three, then four!
they weren't sharks. they were beautiful dolphins! right there within approx 10 yards of the waters edge! absolutely gorgeous! they frolicked and swam around jumping up out the water
and back down again. you could almost reach out and touch them! it was the most fantastic thing!
we watched this display for awhile then continued our walk along the beach. and you know what? ...... those beautiful animals swam parallel with us! it was as if they were following us as we walked along the beach! incredible! truly one of those rare moments in time and life. the kind you want to bookmark in your brain and memory forever.
if only i'd brought the camera!

we walked 5 kilometres, ( aprrox. 3-4 miles), round trip! and the dolphins swam parallel for the first half of our walk! simply amazing and just wonderful! what a privilege to see!
one exciting moment was when one of them took off like a rocket, just skimming beneath the surface of the water. it propelled itself like a torpedo through the water! awesome!

as you might imagine, we were oh a 'high' after this incredible display by nature at it's best.

no wonder i so love my early morning beach walks! on their own they're invigorating and life nourishing. when something like this happens .................. wow!
makes getting up at 0600 on a sunday, when you don't have to, worth every minute!

we finished off our morning by sitting on a bench overlooking the ocean, sipping the coffee i'd made before leaving home.
no better way to start the day!
hope your sunday starts off as joyful! stay safe and well!

Grace, what a great way to start a day!! I envy you - I love the beach and always imagine living close enough so I can take quiet walks in the early morning and night.

    Good night muffie!

I'm currently doing Christmas cards. I made some but then decided they didn't look good enough so I went and bought some. You need a valium to go to Wal Mart now. Never seen so many people in one place. It's mayhem.

will finish trimming the tree today and put the gifts underneath.
today my youngest ds and i hung out for a few hrs alone, trimming and talking.

Gracie, I loved your story. Did the dogs pay attention to the dolphins? The dolphins may have been curious about them.

I still would love to visit Australia. I nearly emigrated to Victoria years ago, but came to the US instead.

Have a good time, Grace. I was going to have a quiet laid back day today when my Dd decided she had to make Christmas cookies. I foolishly went to WalMart. What a nightmare! They didn't have all the stuff she wanted so we went to the mall! Then Linens and Things, Bed Bath and Beyond, Publix and Cash and Carry! We're INSANE. We ended up laughing like lunatics over the silliest stuff. I can testify to the fact that the stores are mobbed. Now I'm melting into the bed, trying to get caught up in all the goings on here. I think my sniffles are a bit better. ColdMD and Zicam. Nope. Can't be sick for Christmas. Besides, I'm working on Christmas. Sleep well, all. I'm going to go nighty-nite.
