Suggestions from all, but especially those in TX

  1. Hi Everyone..

I was supposed to be driving to AZ in the morning, but since the flooding started in TX, I'm kind of blocked in here. Initially I was going to drive from CC to SA and take I10, but the flooding took that option away. Then I decided I would drive down to Laredo, and go around the flooding, until that area also went under a flood warning. Now there is a flood warning in Southeastern NM, and I'm at a lost for ideas in how to make this drive!

Good point...my agency has purchased tickets for me and my daughter to fly to PHX, and then fly back in two weeks to get my car, and then drive back. Most of you know I HATE heights, so I HATE FLYING!!! I have only flew once in the last 20yrs, and that was d/t a dire need to be somewhere quickly

So what I'm asking, is what would you do? Would you wait and see how the weather is, and then decide? Or would you not chance it, and take the UGH...flight? I have been reading the warning for two days now...and just not sure what to do.!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions to this delimena...

Brownie, drive your car up here and leave it with us. We have a garage you can put it in until you come back for it. At least it will be safe with me. THEN...fly your buns to AZ girl! You'll be just fine...really...don't let this weather "rain on your glorious parade"...:kiss

If I were you, I would call the highway advisory lines in the states you are planning on going through. You should be able to find the ones for Texas in your telephone book, and the rest online. They can give you the latest and greatest information.
I would plan on making the drive in the AM, the weather situation changes by the minute in that part of the country.

Brownie that's horrible!!! I would take the tickets and fly to PHX. Is the flight long? Good luck, be safe, and have a happy 4th.

Cheerfuldoer,.. thank you for the very kind, and very generous offer! But you are right where everything is center just about! I can't get to where you are... Your area has been in a flash flood warning...and is now in a river flood warning, and a flash flood watch until later this evening. I would much rather have the car there with you, than stuck at the airport!!! At the very least...you would be able to move it out of harms way...if possible. But I do thank you very much...!

2ndcareerRn, I want to thank you too for taking the time to post your suggestion. I do appreciate you for doing so.. I have been watching the warning constantly...as I would LOVE to drive rather than fly...but still it's a no go here...

nursejws...congrats gurl.. you did it!!! And no it's not a long flight...just I have to take off and land twice and that's the scraiest part. But thank you for posting, and for being soo sweet!!

I guess I guess I have run out of choices here...oh well.

    Dear Brownie

We NEVER run out of choices! Now, get your buns on that airplane to AZ and bring your own sunshine into this situation because the weather you can't change, but your alternative of choosing to fly...even in the midst of your fear...is your best option...unless you want to postpone your trip in hopes Texas roads may dry out enough for you to drive. Texas is a BIG Azz state to get through, so I'll be praying for you to have safe travels whatever you decide. :kiss

"unless you want to postpone your trip in hopes Texas roads may dry out enough for you to drive. "
"Texas is a BIG Azz state to get through,"
You got that right!! Geeze...now this county is under a warning!!

"so I'll be praying for you to have safe travels whatever you decide. :kiss
Please so...and ask God to put my butt to sleep on that planes... both times it takes off....as that is usually how I make it thru the flight...by staying up all day and the nite before I fly! Thanks Cheerful

Do what I do, Brownie...right before my flight, I swallow a couple of Benadryl. It always knocks me out, but not that sound...just enough to take the edge off...and by the time my plane arrives??? I'm on cloud 90! Happy flyin'!

    :chuckle...thanks...I might just do that...:chuckle!

It's mostly dry today...but that's just from looking out my windows. :chuckle A little raindrops hit the window here in my office for a sec or two, but nothing major. The clouds look really clear right now..but that's subject to change...you know how fickle this state's weather can be.

Now...my offer still stands Brownie. Leave the car here if you want. Otherwise, park it at the airport in San Antonio, then get your buns on that aircraft. Besides...maybe you'll get waited on by a handsome buck on the flight, and you'll be so mesmerized by his good looks that you won't even know you are in the air. You'll be flying alright...just not in the REAL sense of the word. :chuckle Besides...they DO serve "beverages" of the "mind altering kind" on that aircraft...knock your self numb with a glass of wine. And...I don't drink...but if I had to fly someplace and was afraid like you...I'd drink that glass of wine to calm me nerves a bit.

Cheerful...... Getting to San Antonio IS the problem! That has been the reason, I haven't left yet!! I can't get there!

The agency is flying us out of CC...not SA...! In fact she is meeting us in DFW while we lay over for an hour! .

But if I knew of a way to drive I would, as I will have to rent a car in PHX, when I get there!!! But I also will have to ship my pc with the rest of my stuff...which I have not intended on doing, because of the heat! I would rather drive, and have been racking my brain on how to do this, and NOT be sorry I did! I have lived in TX on base...and it was NOT a pretty sight the last nite I saw it like this!! A volkswagen in front of us, was washed off the bridge over a creek! This is why the agency didn't hesitate for one second to get us resevations! Within 5mins of talking to her, she was on the phone to travel!

So that is the situation! And I don't drink either...so I think I will do as you suggested, and take the benadryl. With no sleep, and the benadryl, I know I will knock out!! :chuckle.

Oh ...and it would be my luck...it wouldn't be a hottie...it would be some old geezer with bad breath..!

    Brownie...

Drive up to Houston then catch I-45 to Oklahoma city and there you can catch I-40 stright thru to Arizona...the northern part. You can avoid the flooding that way and it will take you through the scenic part of New mexico...Santa Fe and the mountains.

    Dave
