Stress-related?

  1. Got out of the shower this morning, looking in the mirror to get a piece of fuzz out of my eye and was just shocked. All but 2 eyelashes were gone on my left eye!. They must have just fell out!! I didn't wash too hard, and i haven't worn make up in awhile either.

Boy it looks weird. I had to buy fake ones to glue on there because my eye looked so naked compared to the right one.

Would stress cause something like this to happen? I've been eating very well and all despite the chaos happening.

my mom had the same problem only she was pulling them out in her sleep. kind of like a nervous twich or something. she was really stressed then so maybe that is what it was. eventually she stoped doing it though! hope you get it figured out...i pull on my eyelashes when im awake, but i've never pulled them out though?!

Well that was what the weird thing was, i groomed my brows before i got in the tub, and the lashes were still there then lol. The other eye looks fine. Maybe i tugged at them while sleeping and they didn't come out right then?

I did a quick Google search (means I didn't click on ALL the choices!) and came up with two possibilities:

    alopecia areata

    and

    hypothyroidism

Been to your PCP lately? Hope it truly is just nerves but I'd recommend seeing your PCP and possibly dermatologist. Hoping for the best for you -- Diana

Very strange. Since it is only one eye I would lean more to it being something like you pulling your lashes at night. I had a friend who picked her eyelashes and brows when she was nervous. She didn't even know she was doing it a lot of times.

Hope your situation resolves itself soon. Be on the safe side and check wtih your doc. A blood test will r/o hypothyroidism. Hmmmm...... I wonder, could that fuzz have been in your eye all night and maybe in your sleep you tried to remove it- but only got the lashes? Best of luck, keep us posted.

my dh has alopecia. i hope you do not. it is nearly impossible to deal with. he has patches of facial hair that are just missing. so no beard for him. nothing he can do...and yes, stress does seem to exacerbate it.

yikes...how weird ....I hope it is just a one time thing....Are false eyelashes better then they used to be? I was always afraid I would dance and sweat and go to the bathroom and see them stuck on my chin or forehead..Of course I don't have those same concerns now that I am no longer making the scene..But I can see you sweating at work and dislodging those buggers....

I had labs drawn yesterday for thyroid level, i'll see what that winds up being when i come back to work.

I see signs of them sprouting back, so hopefully that was a one time deal. Till then, the false strip is staying put nicely until i wash it off.

I have a bald spot on my head that i've had since i was 6 mos. old, but that's the only balding problem i've ever had. I hope the two aren't connected.

[font=Garamond]Reminds me of the time I lost an entire eyebrow right before family portraits were due to be taken. I was a school aged child then, and the doctor told my mother it was my allergies that caused my eyebrow to fall out that way. It grew back (of course), then we were able to have that family portrait my mother worked so hard for.

I hope you have a sence of humor
While I was reading your post it came to me that I was doing it with my eyebrows arched high. And now I can't stop it
