Sonic Drive-In Fast Food Places

  1. I have two questions that might seem silly; however, they're bugging me.

    1. Is anyone familiar with the Sonic Drive-In fast food places?

    2. If you are familiar with Sonic, do you know if I'm supposed to tip the people on rollerskates who bring the food to my car?

Thanks in advance to anyone who has an answer for me.

I am very familiar with Sonic....grew up with it.

I tip them at least a buck or so usually. I know many people do not. It is kind of one of those up to you sort of deals. They aren't paid waiter wages, but min wage still stinks.

Thanks so much! I wouldn't want to seem like a cheapskate or end up short-changing a hard worker.

I've been dining there every so often throughout the past 3 years.

They advertise Sonic right here in Western Oregon, but I've never seen one anywhere even close!! I wish they wouldn't do that---everything looks and sounds sooooooooo tempting, and we can't get to it!!!

I always tip. The food is good (for fast food and it's really fast) and the deliverer is always very pleasant.

I tip. After all, they're taking my order, getting it right, bringing it back...kinda like inside service except it's in my second home--I mean, car.

Yep, I do too. For the same reason, min. wage stinks. Plus, they don't get that many hours, so probably aren't getting benefits or anything either.

There's a Sonic near here, but we've never been.

all the local ones here have drive thrus now in addition to the pull up parking spots.

I use the drive thrus these days.

But, in the past. I always tipped modestly. I agree with others - they make full minimum wage so there is no '15%' rule or anything like that. But I always thought that a buck and change was appropriate.

The Sonics do a lot of community fund raisers - for instance - my daughters swim team worked as car hops at sonic one day - all the tip money they made went to fund the swim team. They also stood on the curb and reeled thirsty people in by shaking a little leg and waving posters.

The ones here do this for a lot of high school teams, community service groups and other things. I think it's a great way for the kids to be able to raise money safely without going door to door or selling candy bars, but they still get to work for it!
