Song suggestions for family videos

  1. I'm making some videos to burn to DVD (a nice thing to send to out of town family members I think) using microsoft movie maker (very cool program), and I need some suggestions for songs for the audio track. The first one I finished was for my youngest son, and I used the song "You'll be in my heart" by Phil Collins. I also want to use Rod Stewart's "Forever Young" for one of the videos, but I'm having trouble thinking of some other good songs for this purpose. Anybody have any suggestions for good songs to use?

We have a video like this that a local company made for us years ago - but it's more like a slide show of still photographs instead of videos. One of the songs on it is "Memories," but that really is probably more appropriate for someone who's passed away, or videos/photos of someone's younger years. Another sort of sad, melancholy song is "Sunrise, Sunset" from Fiddler on the Roof.

If you have younger children - not at all related - but I think Joe Scruggs song, "Refrigerator Picture" is really cute.

I'll think more on this later - time for lunch (and running to the post office to mail taxes!)

Here's a few more off the wall suggestions - for memory tapes of older photos, or for the kid/video thing (though some wouldn't necessarily work for both hehe)

Thank You for Loving Me - Bon Jovi
    Cherish - Madonna
From This Moment - Shania Twain
    In My Life - Beatles
I Have Been Blessed - Martina McBride
Memory - from the musical "Cats"
What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong
    True Color - Cyndi Lauper
We Are Family - Sister Sledge
Wind Beneath my Wings - Bette Midler
Maybe something like Tomorrow or It's a Hard Knock Life from Annie

There are several Beach Boys songs that would probably fit well in with those themes.

You've got a Friend in Me (from Toy Story, or any of those type songs by Randy Newman are pretty good)

As far as purely instrumental music goes, I myself am a big fan of Classical Gas

Great suggestions! I am so in love with this program. You can make the neatest video and slide show compilations. So cool. Please, keep the song suggestions coming.

So, do you scan pics, then use the program on the computer, is that what you are talking about? I'd love to have a video like that, but I'm not sure how you are doing it???? thanx

I write my own music to my own videos!

Gosh, I LOVE computer-based video editing. I use a program called Vegas 4.0. It's now made by Sony. Check it out! Lately, I've been spending lots and lots of hours in front of the computer moderator working on a couple of video projects. (Got to remember to eat, sleep and. . . :chuckle )

There's a lot of great music out there that lends itself to those family video projects. Do NOT forget the classics! There's lots of great orchestral music out there that are royalty free to boot!

Sure, you can absolutely use scanned pics. The easiest of course will be images that you already have saved in a digital format, either from a digital camera or pics saved to CD or floppy when you get your film developed. You can also (if you have a video capture card) hook up your VCR or your camcorder to the computer to capture bits of camera work that way. It's a very neat way to preserve memories I think.

Ted, I'll have to check out that Sony program. I've used the Pinnacle software before, and at the time I thought that was really the bomb. Now that I've compared pinnacle and movie maker, I see a much better quality with the movie maker software. I will definitely check out the Vegas program too though.

I love all the song suggestions!
