Something positive with regards to alternative fuels!

  1. I came across this web site from . . . believe it or not. . . from one of the many music-based bulletin boards I visit.

It's about Project Bio Bus . Basically, its a bus the runs on vegetable oil which, I understand, produces minimal pollution. A wonderful example of what we can do if we want to. . .

Apparently Diesel engines will run on vegeatlbe oil and a recent article in new scientist told of how a University in the Middle East (I can't remember which one) had found that Jojoba oil was a good substitute for diesel - it does require a catalyst. If this is followed through though it will be a real boon to farmers in marginal rainfall areas as Jojoba is a dry climate plant

    Sounds good to me!

I remember the President talking about hydrogen engines in the state of the Union Address.
    Anyone up to explaining it?

There will NEVER an alternate fuel used as long as there are those who are able to profit off the use of oil! Shoot if they used vegetable oil then they probably would make a law where only certain people could grow the plants, and yada, yada. And don't forget...who would pay the oil tax?? Oooh I guess they would just add on a vegetable oil tax...:chuckle!

Did you hear about the guy who built a windmill on his property, so he wouldn't have to buy power from the power company. They taxed his property so heavily, that he had to take the windmill down. As long as oil is keeping the rich, rich...we will NEVER have a broad use of alternate fuel!

Guess we have it OKAY over here. Our goverement subsidises Solar Hot Water systems. We have an active research groups around the country and especially here at the Queensland University, we have an annual solar power car race. And we practically INVENTED windmills for pumping and energy.

We can buy solar powered toches and radios (they also have a winder in case) and we are experimenting with Ethanol fuels.

But if you want the latest information on alternate energy then subscibe to one of the science magazines. Just read where the new generation of solar cells are 1/3 more efficient and they have just found a way to make them cheaper. The cells powered NASA' Helios craft to record altitude recently for a non-rocket engine.

Hmmmm....... An Alternate engery thread - could be worth keeping alive.
