So Susy K........

  1. What is the new book going to be? I read where Oprah is reviving her book club, only now it"s "Traveling with the Classics".

I think this book club should have a name, too.

    Funny you should ask.

I defer to my VP - Stargazer.

Actually, Stargazer and I were musing that the book club isn't turning out to be as much in demand as we thought it would be. We usually have a nice response for the vote, but the discussions are lacking.

    What's your thoughts?

I agree about the discussions but let's give it a few more months before any decision not to continue is made. Okay? We've only read 2 books.

I enjoyed the Gibbons book but I can see where some people wouldn't get into it. The Grisham discussion was good.

Actually, we've read 3. Hence the point. We're finding that most people seem to like the idea of a book club that they could join in on IF, you know, they weren't too busy and didn't have to exert any effort to find the book and really, really liked the cover art and...whatever... but that didn't seem to translate into actual participation. About 5 or 6 times as many people vote on the books as actually return to talk about them.

I'm open to discussion about it, but I have to say that both Susy and I are feeling kind of discouraged at this point.

What was the third book? I remember Gibbons and Grisham.

Our first book--the Anne Rice book that everyone voted for and then nobody read.

... hey!!!!! I drove 70 miles to get the Gibbons book and I got the "Avenue" one too- just in case. I DID like the cover art on Cold Comfort but it didn't add anything to the story. Don't discourage so easily.

oh yeah... Anne Rice. I had already read it twice and just didn't want to read it again. However, if Dracula would of won...it's been years since I read that one... so I accept the responsibility for not participating in that discussion- I HAD read the book after all.. Sorry.

oh well... I will go with whatever... I'll read with you or without you- it's just fun to read books I might not have known about on my own.

Don't get me wrong, Mattigan, I appreciate your enthusiasm, honestly! But it'll take more than ONE enthusiastic person to keep this going.
