Sent article to Newsweek

  1. Wish me luck, everybody........I finally screwed up enough guts to send an article to Newsweek magazine, about how we need to take better care of the frail elderly in this country. They have this page called "My Turn", which is the only page for contributors. I've been a "semi-professional"writer for many years, with pieces published in a number of large newspapers (LA Times, San Diego Union, etc.) but this is my first try at a national magazine, so I'm kinda nervous. lt'll probably be a couple of months before I hear anything, and I imagine the competition's pretty stiff, but this is a topic near and dear to my heart and I think I've made a reasoned, but passionate argument for improving the conditions in nursing homes.

    Just my $.02 worth.....

Thanks, you guys! Like I said, it may be quite a while before I know whether or not it'll be published, and there's probably zillions of other writers who are better at it than I am, but from past experience I know nothing will happen unless I try. And I think the message I'm trying to get across is an important one that's been ignored for far too long by the powers that be.

We'll see, anyway. I'll let you all know when I hear from them one way or the other. I've certainly gotten rejection letters before; if Newsweek doesn't use the piece, there are LOTS of other markets I can try.
