Scrapbooking help needed!

  1. I just bought some scrapbooking supplies at the hobby shop. (I have loads of family and vacation pictures and want to get them out of boxes and into keepsake albums.)

Do any of you scrapbook? I was hoping for some good hints. What is the best way to mount, what type of albums are best etc.?

Check out the sites on Google there are so many sites with info. I try my hand at it but am far from knowing what i am doing , but I do it anyway. Sorta the way I run my life
Good luck , its fun to do in your spare time . Don't try too much at once and it won't overwelm you.
Well, I'm here and happy to help.
I like to mount with photo splits, also called photo mounting squares. I would suggest getting the type in a dispenser to avoid having to pull off all those little blue tabs (they get scattered all over the floor). Ask the people at the craft store, they'll hook you up.

As for what type of album, it's a personal preference. I like strap-hinge albums (as opposed to post-bound), and I like the type of these with top-loading pages. You can also get the regular, plain pages and just put page protectors over them (I just happen to like the other way better).

Any more questions, just let me can PM me if you want, or just post again on this thread.

If you have a "scrapbook" store, many of them have classes that you can take, or ask around for anyone who is having a creative memories party.
Good luck, but be careful it's addicting and can get $$$

Hello! I love to scrapbook! That is when I am not at work, studying, or chasing around my 2 year old or 8 month old. Whew!
When I first started scrapbooking, I got a few of those 'memory makers' magazines, they sell them at craft stores where they sell scrapbooking supplies. You get tons of good info in there as well as page layout ideas, although some of the things they do in the magazine are a bit extravagant for my taste. There are also tons of sites on the internet with tips, how-to's, page layouts, my favorite being
As for photo mounting tips, it depends on the layout, sometimes I use a glue stick (usually when i am mounting the pic on another piece of paper first) and sometimes i use those photo corners like shellybellyrn said. it depends on the look you're going for! albums are the same way. i personally like the post-bound albums with the top loading pages. i have a hard time finding albums i like in a store, i usually find what i like online.
wow, my message got long...hope i gave you some hints to get started. pm me if you want some more info!

I started out with Creative Memories stuff. I have the strap bound book (which I can't figure out how to put back together... and tons of accessories. However, they are pretty lame when it comes to variety, so I get all of my stuff at Michael's. Just make sure it is acid free and lingin free. I also buy all of my scissors there, as I'm not paying $10 for a pair from CM that I can get for $2.

I use the glue. I used to use the corner hinges but they got to be a pain in the butt. If you're doing an odd shaped picture or cutouts, they don't stick as well without glue.

PM me if you have any more questions. I will have to check out that site!

Thanks for the help. We have an ACMoore store nearby and I will check out classes and check out the sites you suggested. I can see how it would become addictive and expensive. When I was a SAHM I braided rugs for all my rooms, knit and sewed for the kids, did toleware and stencilling, hooked cairpads and pictures--I was literally the craft queen. Lost interest working 40+ hours (no energy left!) but now I'm rearing to go.

    You people are so great!!

A new AC Moore store is having their grand opening in my local Mall today!

I've been thinking of partaking a new hobby other than sleeping and thought I'd give scrapbooking a try. My sister loves to scrapbook. She likes to go on eBay and check out their auctions as she says it's cheaper than the stores a lot of times. She also likes to go to Michaels!

Somone alrady posted this but it's a GREAT site. . . I searched for a while nd that was the best one I found by far. I have been scrapbooking for three years. I love it. I also go to AC Moore and buy paper when it's 10 cents for a dollar. Where I am they send out 40% off one items coupons almost weekly. I use them to buy bigger items not on sale. I couldn't live without the Fiskars paper trimmer/cutter. I purchased it with 40% coupon. Also use them on albums. I also have found a few local scrapbook stores which carry different kinds of items. I also agree with the person that posted about the adhesives that come in a dispenser, sooo much easier. I must say I know it can be expensive, i don't buy much thats' not on sale. You have to be patient. I also got to Michael's and I did find a few things at Wal-Mart on clearence i used for one album. My local scrapbook stores also hold many classes. You search on the Creating Keepsakes website for a local store:
    Good Luck to you

I am just getting started in scrapbooking. I have done one page, but don't particularly like it. Besides the stores mentioned in the above posts, Hobby Lobby is also has a ton of stuff. (Hope the link works. If not, just type in Hobby Lobby in a search engine and you should get a hit.)

Anyone out there have any advice for those just starting? What do you believe are the basic necessities to start in this hobby? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have enjoyed the creative memories strapped books. I buy lots of background paper and supplies from hobby lobby. I know that Michaels has idea books that look neat. Have fun, scrapbooking was theraputic for me last semester when I wanted to strangle my instructior (j/k) and now I am all caught up.
