Seeing as anthrax is not very lethal, leading to the liklihood that it will be treated if found, and seeing as it is not contagious, so the likihood of mass infection is very low, do you suppose that these letters sent sporadically are more so meant to scare and divert our attention, efforts and dollars away from the possibility of a different attack?

I can not help but agree that it is a major "terror tactic" however the lethality could be alot worse if we were not preparing for it. The incubation time plays a role, in addition "flu" season is just about here. Inhaled anthrax is rarely survivable, exposure and cutaneous anthrax can be treated if caught, there in lies the key.
I think as average citizens go we are safe, the target is high profile... but we the average citizen nurses work in the hospitals that will be treating anthrax cases. Lastly I saw the CDC was putting out a memo on smallpox! We just need to be vigilant and prepared IMHO.

I definately think it is a scare tactic. I also think it is meant to draw out attention away from other possible sources of another terrorist attack. Targeting the media--gee how ingenious...they are the mouthpieces and all of a sudden THEY are the ones affected by the news. Naturally the spotlight is going to be on Anthrax now. But what are we missing? What are they planning next? Who knows...maybe it sounds paranoid but I do think it is meant to be a distraction.
Of course they are trying to create some kind of mass hysteria and cause us to be afraid to go about our daily lives. I don't think it's working.

This was the topic of discussion in one of my classes today and the general concensus is that it is a divertion tactic. This along with them asking for us to stop the "war" during Ramadan leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
Why the diversion? This is some of the things that our class came up with. With attention elsewhere, tying up FBI and law enforcement, they can move about more freely and set up for their next move. What might they be planning? This is a short list.
2. Bubonic Plague.
3. Tainting the drinking water.
4. Targeting other big city buildings throughout the U.S. since they started on the east coast they will move west.
5. Any airborne extinct/almost extinct virus spread throughout the U.S.
6. Outright military attack within the United States.
There are so many possibilities that it is impossible to know what is going to happen next.
Do I feel threatened by anthrax? Not in the least. I'm still going to go to school, graduate and enter the field of nursing. I'm still going grocery shopping, to the movies, casino (when I have a couple extra dollars!! LOL!), and on trips with my family. There is no one that is going to stop that......I don't care who they think they are!!!
All I see with anthrax is the possibility of having to get yet another vaccination (I already feel like a pin cushion so what's one more?)!

Of course we know that it can kill, but these Anthrax attacks are mainly a tactic of psychological warfare.

Hi all. Yes, anthrax may be a diversion for our 24 hour media and our government. I just hope that our intelligence community which now includes members from the public health sector, as in the CDC, NIH, and public health departments, will receive the support they need to help provide us with the tools in the health and medical professions to help others and ourselves.
I know that I'll probably get ripped for writing this, but I feel that as a believer that these plagues, rumors of plagues and so on should serve as an impetus for many of us to work on getting our personal lives in the shape we want and need. No one can predict what's next. That's for God to know. But, we do have control over today. So for today, I'll make a list of priorities to work on and hope that I'll be granted time to accomplish my goals. I admit I thought I had time, even though I knew that time was not in my control. September 11 was just a beginning or at least the tip of the iceberg. Anthrax, I believe, is not the end. Now is not the time to panic, but a time to prepare.
