Rush concert and pics

  1. Me and hubby, Phil, and his friend, Chris, went to the Rush concert in Nashville on Thursday (8-14). It was wonderful, they put on a great show. We had 11th row seats and were able to get a throw away camera in.
Phil and his friend got backstage meet and greet passes, so that was very exciting. It was Getty and Alex only in the meeting. Neil is pretty to himself. He's had a rough time the past few years......death of his wife and daughter.......I don't guess I blame him
They played two 90 minutes sets. Started with Tom Sawyer, played 5 songs from new album, and an unplugged of Resist, just to name a few songs. It was all amazing.
    Can't wait until Atlanta!!!!
Here's a link to a small webpage Phil, my hubby, made with pics including the one with him, Geddy and Alex!!
    Enjoy!!

Hey vettech!!! You asked in another post how I like their solo albums. I really like 'My Favorite Headache', but haven't heard enough of the others to make an opinion.

Hey vettech!!! You asked in another post how I like their solo albums. I really like 'My Favorite Headache', but haven't heard enough of the others to make an opinion.
I'm not a huge fan of MFH. I freaking LOVE "Victor", Alex's solo album. As I said previously, its really dark. There's only one song on there that sounds anything like Rush and that would be "Promise" but even that one has pretty dark lyrics (its about a teen debating about running away). He said it was intentional since most Rush music is pretty happy. He said he wanted to explore his darker side. There is one song on there that is actually pretty funny, its called "Shut Up Shuttin' Up" and its basically an instrumental but he has his wife and another woman in the foreground basically griping about men. It's hillarious! The title track "Victor" is a long poem set to music (with Alex reading it, one of the few places he does any vocals) and is pretty twisted.

I must sound evil for enjoying such a dark album but it really is a well executed album. I think the main thing that grabs me is just how much of a departure Alex took from the usual Rush sound.
I had a friend describe it as "Alex Lifeson meets Nine Inch Nails" Quite frankly, I wish Geddy had gone a bit further himself. MFH could be a Rush album from the late 80's era.

What do you think of the new one? I like it but not as much as Test for Echo. There are a few songs on there that rival T4E but not many. My faves are "One Little Victory", "Ghost Rider" and "Vapor Trails". Lyrically my fave is "Peaceable Kingdom" which is obviously a song about 9/11 and terrorism/fanaticism in general.

Also, have you read Neil's book, "The Masked Rider"? Wow, really insightful and is actually one of my motivators in my new workout program.

Geez, get me talking about the Canadian Rock GODS and I go on forever.

Mama Val-- to your husband!!! LOL, just kidding!! It was great though!! They don't travel up that far north do they?

Well I'm definitely going to listen to Victor. I like NIN. What a mix, huh! I totally agree MFH could be a Rush album. I didn't start listening to MFH until shortly after VT came out. We had it in the CD player right after VT. I didn't realize it wasn't a part of VT until seeing that the disc number on the CD player had changed!!

My fav songs on VT are--Sweet Miracle, One Little Victory, and Vapor Trail. I think One Little Victory is a great song to have started the album with.

I have read The Masked Rider, its truely inspirational. Yesterday Amazon.com shipped us our copy of Neil's new book Ghost Rider. We wanted to buy it at the concert, but it was 10 bucks cheaper from Amazon.

Have you been to 2112.net? It is a great website, you MUST check it out. There is actually a link to my hubby's page under 'Tour Spoilers'!! A man, who saw my hubby's pics after linking from 2112.net, emailed him yesterday saying he has a 100% complete, near-perfect digital recording of the Nashville show we saw. And that he would trade a copy of our pic for his 3 disc set!!! Needless to say there is a 3 disc set of the Nashville concert in the mail addressed to us!! If the quality is good I could get Phil to copy you a set, if your interested?!?!?!

Ahem, ummm, new book? Really?!?! (Pause while I look at Amazon.com) Wow, neato! I'll order it soon (school starts in a week, money's kinda tight). Masked Rider is kinda my default book when I'm in a situation where I will need a book to read for a few hours/days (li.e. when you know you'll be stuck in a waiting room for an extended period, going to the DMV, etc.)

As far as the bootleg, hell yeah! Especially since I had to miss them for the first time in 20 years. At least I can pretend I went.

As far as Victor is concerned, my favorites are "Don't Care", "Start Today", and "Shut Up Shuttin' Up" - although there isn't a song on the album I don't like. I hate to say this but I can't honestly say the same about "MFH" or "VT". To me, "MFH" sounds nothing like "VT". Instead it reminds me of "RtB/Counterparts" era Rush. I like 2 songs on the album "My Favorite Headache" and "Working at Perfekt", there are a few others I can take or leave.
