Restricted cell phone calls?

  1. Why do some cell calls show up as restricted? Is this the equivalent to *67 on land-line phones?

Some people request to have that service. For instance, when (let's say) the cable guy is coming to your house and gets lost and needs to call you for directions..........it will come up as private (so no one is calling him back [customers that is]). My cell phone will not take private calls, so you will get a recording asking you to unblock the call if you want to get through. I think it's a few bucks a month not sure.

Thanks Jess! Is the "restricted" part all the time, or is it a per call basis?

Just called Verizon, I can't block them.

There is a feature you input that will block them. I had a huge problem with telemarketers. I don't have a home phone and depend solely on my cell phone. It wasn't cute getting tons of calls every week from these folks.

I don't have verizon, but can do some research (will try).

No one who calls my cell with a private, no caller id, or blocked number cannot get through to me unless they unblock the call.

Southern, you can block using verizon too look:

    http://www22.verizon.com/ForYourHome...ryID=&state=P1

The name and number of your caller may not be displayed for every incoming call. In some cases, you will see a message on your Caller ID display unit instead of the name and number of the caller. The exact wording of the message may vary depending upon your display unit. "Out of Area" or "Unavailable" messages are from calls made outside specially equipped areas and calls made through an operator. "Private" or "Anonymous" messages are from calls made by people who have blocked the display of their telephone information.

You can block "Private" or "Anonymous" calls by activating Anonymous Call Rejection (ACR). ACR is included with your Caller ID service.

Make sure to put your cell phone number on the national do not call registry.

We dont need to pay for the service up here....according to our phone company.....if they're going to invenvt and sell software that displays the phone number to other people you call.......then you should have the right to NOT have it show...its only fair right? . Privacy is very big up here
