re Paypal

  1. This is a copy of an email I sent to friends re: Paypal

    ****

I got an email that said it was from PayPal. It said that I had added a new credit card address and showed me the address on the email (a California address). Said to click on the link if the address was added to my account in error.

I was almost finished with entering all kinds of info - email, password, then credit card number, those little 3 numbers on the back of the card, then they wanted my PIN NUMBER. I'm like waiiiittt.... then also they wanted me to register my BANK INFO and pin # for that!

I called PAY PAL and sure enough - it was fraudulent - so - BE CAREFUL -

Paypal said if the email was FROM them it would have said "Dear So and So" and also I should NEVER follow a link to them, but rather type in the web address I had previously been given. They said they would NOT have asked for all this additional info as well.

    So. There ya have it.

i get a ton of that stuff from ebay- that i'm in danger of losing my acct and they ask me for personal info- i just automatically forward it to www.spoof@ebay.com. then ebay gets back to me verifying that it wasn't from them. doesn't ebay own paypal now. or vice-versa?

zoey- definitely make sure you report it. you can even use the above email address and since they're connected w/ea other, i'm sure you'll get a letter from ebay telling you they forwarded it to the proper dept. thanks for the heads up.

I delete anything from ebay or paypal and don't given them a thing. It's all spam. I just used my paypal the other day for an ebay purchase. This after multiple emails that I needed to update my records.

    Glad you weren't taken in.

I forwarded a paypal link that looked suspicious to spoof@paypal.com this week too!

If it doesn't come addressed in your own name, forward email then delete DON'T OPEN IT!

    Thanks for updating members.

I got one of those also, but knew it was a fake, so I forwarded it to paypal without even opening it. Paypal responded back to say it was indeed fraudulant.

i read about this indentity scam about a couple of weeks .. don't ever give out personal info on a site you did not initiate.. and for those whom you do dial up there is a new card available with limited credit line and which can only be accessed on line...you change your password freqently .. regaining your credit can be a costly and time consuming process...protect your self from the wolves

I got one last week from Paypal, too. It looked ok, so I opened it. It said I'd added another email address to my a/c. No, no, no! I called paypal, and then forwarded the email to the spoof address. Just to be on the safe side, I changed my password, too.

    Scary!
