Ragdoll vs Persian

  1. Does anyone know anything about these breeds of cats?
My husband and I are planning to get one. I'm partial to the persians but he seems intent on the ragdolls. They're both adorable.
Any input would be appreciated, i.e. temperament, personality, shedding issues, etc.

I don't know much about them, but I personally recommend the Maine Coon breed.

Both seem to be good breeds.

We have a siamese/persian mix that is very affectionate, but very exclusive. She will not come out when we have visitors. Because of the siamese in her, she likes to nip at your hands while you rub her cheeks.

We also have a raddoll/calico/persian mix. She is so spoiled. She is a very needy cat, she need to be with you almost constantly. She will sleep with my wife all night and the all day with me. When sitting around she has to be on my lap. She is very affectionate to everyone, not shy at all. She will lay on my forearm as I carry her around, will let me drape her around my neck...you name it. She just loves to get attention.

Our Maine Coon is also a great cat, somewhat independent though. She is definately one of those cats that thinks she owns the people.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of the breeds you mentioned.

Good luck on finding the right cat.

I think either breed is great... I have a Ragdoll or at least she is mostly one, I know she isnt full-blooded cause I got her from the Humane society but she looks just like one with the thick main and beautiful blue eyes... You will have less eye problems with the ragdoll, Persians are known for their goopy eyes... But that wouldn't stop me from getting one..

Here is the Cat Fanciers Association link to Ragdolls to tell you about their personality... (Ps.. I almost got a Ragdoll last weekend except it was $500)

our persian ROCKS...she is the most affectionate and kind kitty. she is now 12 but you would never know it; she is spry and healthy as the days of her kittenhood. i highly recommend this intelligent and affectionate breed. siamese are great, too. i miss my siamese boy. he was almost like a dog....so affectionate and goofy.

The best cats in the world...medium long hair, striped, independent, friendly...can you tell I have one (his name is Doug).

I am fostering a pair of Persains right now...they are really needy as far as food and coat care (hair balls suck). My Mom has a Ragdoll and it is really 'clingy' but the hair is a little shorter so there is less daily maintenence.
