1. Has anyone ever farted in the presence of a patient? Even one of those small ones that sneak out when you're laughing?

By the way...I NEVER fart. It would be unladylike. If one did happen to slip would smell like rose petals...and it would sound like an angel's harp.

Uhhhhhhhhh....not YET. But seeing as I'm both lactose intolerant AND have IBS, I imagine it's only a matter of time...

One of our docs (now retired) used to do it routinely, from what I understand...hee hee!!

Hey, yes, blame it on the IBS and lactose intolerance. Before I was diagnosed, and so left untreated-omg, it was bad. When I was in clinical as a nursing student and you remember how scared and unsure of yourself you were, three staff nurses and I were transferring a female CVA with a peg tube and expressive asphasia (non verbal at the time -poor woman) and I couldn't inhibit the gaseous process and of course the poor woman got blamed for it , but was a point of concern because of the tube feed. But I couldn't bring myself to own up to it! Much better these days with metamucil prn and diet, thank goodness! I imagine it is a big problem with nurses (and their patients ) --and we indulge in flatulence friendly activities to give us relaxation, then run around the floor for 12 hrs with no time for a decent meal, hydration and bathroom breaks. Blame it on the pt in the other room, I say!

    I am strict lacto-ovo vegetarian.
I try and eat alot of fruit, fresh vegies, and I pretty much have gas several times a week.
Unfortunatley yes, I have "pooper stinkered" (quietly) near pt's and other nurses before.
