Pumpkins and Witches and Ghosts, Oh My!

  1. Yup, it's that time of year already........I just finished putting up a batch of goofy-faced pumpkins and stringing funny little lights all over the house and yard. We have jack-o'-lanterns in the dining room, ghosts in the office, even some glowing bones "buried" in the rose planter out in the front yard (which ought to look REALLY cool at night). I usually wait till the first weekend in October to decorate for Halloween, but since I didn't do anything at all last year, I thought I'd get the jump on it this time around.

What's even more fun is discovering several new things that I didn't even know we had. I have this habit of buying decorations after the major holidays when they're like 50-75% off, then forgetting all about 'em until I open the boxes---every year there's something new and different! The kids always laugh at me, because not only am I surprised every time, but so delighted by my 'finds' that I'm just like a little kid. (Well, it never did take a lot to make me happy.........:wink2: )

So now we're all set up for Halloween, and I can't wait for my grandson to see all the lights and decorations. He's still too little for trick-or-treating---I think we'll try it next year---but there's no reason not to start making memories now.

    Happy (early) Halloween!

Good for you! Wish I had the ambition...I like Halloween too...

I contemplated putting up some of my fall decor...but readily talked myself out of it since I got med/surg clinicals coming up...guess I could delegate the task to others....

    Have fun!!!!

Yep, there's no time like the present to learn how to delegate:wink2:

Now, I've just got to get my office done.........the residents are expecting it...........OK, it's fun for me too.

I love All Hallow's Eve! I don't decorate much anymore....we live in the sticks...lol....the only trick or treaters we get are moose and skunks!

Switched nights with a co-worker so she can take her grandson out for the evening....but the local kids come to the hospital....we have a BIG cauldron of candy sitting at the nurses station.

Halloween's fun to decorate for. One year we "dressed up" a person-sized tree we had in our front yard. It was a cloaked witch with the pointed witch hat on top and a broom in the branch "hand". We had a black cauldron in front of "her" with dry ice smoke drifting out and over the rim. Great effect and lots of fun.

I love this time of year. Love the pumpkins the the mums that are out now and the leaves are turning. I've still to decorate my front door step. I get a couple of bales of hay and assorted pumpkins and a corn stalk. Never get any trick or treaters though...not even the neighborhood kids. Live at the top of a long, steep driveway which is really dark, no street lights or anything and in a very wooded area so you can't even see the house from the street but I'll decorate the front anyway.

We live in a similar, wooded location at the BOTTOM of a looong, steep and really dark driveway, so we don't get many trick-or-treaters either. We buy big bags of candy at Costco every year just in case, but........well..........few kids=more candy for us:wink2:

we live at the top of the hill---mostly seniors on block till past 3 years.
everyone however stops at our driveway to check out the pumpkins dh and sons carve each year from pumpkin patterns. what started as a grade school activity turned into familty tradition x 12 years.

kids swear by pumpkin masters™ | free patterns tools to do carving.

marla, you could even do that at your facility... if not up to carving, everyone can paint a face on those little pumpkins; often can get 10/$1.00 for at their bedsides.
