Problem...

  1. I need some advice.

    Two months ago, I started a new position here in Canada. Since then, I have had several health issues surface, and have missed 10 days of work. Of course, my boss is furious, and I am quite frustrated.

    I am afraid of losing my job, but apparently due to the union, she must give me a verbal warning, and then a written warning before she can terminate me. This is what other employees have told me, who have been working here a long time.

    As I write this, I am trying to overcome a migraine, which I have now missed two days of work from. I am sure I will be in trouble come tomorrow. I am concerned on how to deal with all of this. My manager seems like she may have a vicious temper. She presents herself as being VERY nice, but shows her anger quite openly if you displease her. I'll go as far as to say that there may be some speculation as to whether or not she has an alcohol problem.

    Does anyone have any thoughts on how I can handle this woman and situation in a professional, productive manner?

    i would go to your doctor and obtain a letter of current medical problems that prohibit you from going to work.

    or if need be, each time you get sick, get a letter from your doctor.

    I am happy to report that my employer has been quite cooperative. It's actually a response I never expected.
