  1. Any Shift House Supervisors out there? Looking to see what other supervisors roles are - job descriptions, pay, etc. Very difficult in locating anyone out there that does this type of job. Some hospitals, smaller ones, have done away with them and posted them instead in the ER as shift supervisor. They handle all the necessary mangement stuff from that area. I have found many hospitals over 100 beds still maintain a shift supervisor.

well......back in 1994 our hospital eliminated the house supervisors. afew came to the er as their choice of place. turns out, now in the last year, they have rehired house supervisors, to try and find the "hidden" patients beds, and discharges not entered into the computer, etc etc. bottom line, find rooms to kep the flow going in the hospital, d/t our near full capacity the majoraty of the time. pay? duties? not really sure? me

We have house supervisors on 3-11 and 11-7. They get beds for admissions, do staffing everywhere but in the ER(we are closed we cover ourselves),handle pt or family complaints,Handle any major problems on their shifts, help busy units, run for supplies, they are in charge of the house and are a direct line to administration on the off shifts if anything major is going on. They also go to the nite pharmacy for meds when the pharmacy closes at 9pm.
Their pay scale depends on experience but generally make about $22-25/hr. This is in Pittsburgh PA where pay for nurses is generally pretty low the more experience you have.
