Pop, Soda, or Coke ?

  1. An article in Sunday paper raises the question of what you ask for when ordering a soda/pop/Coke depends on where you were raised. Here in Az. most folks call it soda. I was born near Boston ,sp i called it tonic until I was moved to Phoenix at the tender age of 10. Do remember as child asking for a "soda" somewhere in upstate NY, and was told they don`t have "ice cream" .So here`s another nice save topic.......i hope..........:roll What do you call soft drinks in your part of the world?

Up in PA we called it soda. Here in the Southeast (TN) everyone calls it coke ... then you have to say what type of coke. I've asked for diet coke (specifically) and have been given diet pepsi .... as though they are interchangable - the generic coke just seems to mean a dark carbonated drink irregardless of brand.

Soda. When I go to visit relatives in Iowa, I refuse to call it pop because it sounds funny.

I grew up in Ohio where we called soft drinks "POP". Then I moved South, and learned that they referred to "POP" as Soda.
I've been living in more Southern states than Northern states since leaving Ohio way back when, so now I only refer to soft drinks as Soda. :chuckle

Grew up in Ohio- Have always called it pop. Now that I live in Florida, people are always laughing when they hear me say pop, and call it soda down here.
