Pocket change....

  1. Boy, did I get a nice surprise today!! We have a couple of old, big glass jars that we throw our pocket change in every evening. Been awhile since we took it in to the bank, so today my husband asked me to take the change in to the bank and get cash for it. We have plans to go out and eat on Sunday with some friends and he was hoping that we would have enough to pay for lunch. So, me and my 13 y/o lugged the glass jars in the bank this afternoon and gave the jars to the tellers. She puts the coins in the machine that sorts and counts it out. She came back and said, "guess how much money you had there?" I guessed around $50 and my son said $100. Both of us were off by a mile. The total came to $238.20 I about wet my pants... I never suspected there was that much there. Well, anyway we can pay for lunch Sunday, and probably a couple other little things....I love surprises like this....

Cool...That change can add up...I have a full 3# coffee can completely full of pennies, some day will drag it down to 'big' city ,and find out how much is there.I have tried to bribe g-kids to roll them( they get to keep what there is there) but no takers.... Also have a vase with the rest of my change, that is Laughlin money...

Whoa-Cool! We've got a big Coke bottle bank we've been filling for a while now but only pennies, so it'll be awhile to get anything out of it. Enjoy you're free lunch!!

When I was about 3 I was given a frog shaped bank. I already had a piggy bank at home so I left it with Grandma & Grandpa and told them they could keep their pennies in it. Little did I know, from that day forward they saved their pennies and when the frog bank got full they'd take it to the bank and make a deposit... in an account for JUST ME.

I never knew about this until almost a year after we got married, and I got nailed by the IRS for not reporting income... the interest on that account! LOL Grandma & Grandpa felt so bad for not realizing *I* was going to have to pay taxes on it, that they cashed it out. That's how we bought our 'wedding' rings... for our first anniversary! :imbar We were too broke to buy rings for the actual wedding, but all those pennies added up and we sure appreciated them after waiting a year!

I don't like having change in my pockets so it tends to pile up. I do steal the occasional $1 or $2 coin for coffee or coat check. My bank does not have one of those change counting machines. The grocery store that has one charges 9% so I have to roll it up.

Save it up for the cable internet thing Wendy. Or the thong, never have too many of those.
I wish I had your patience when it comes to change. I always end up using mine

I did get up to $65 once.
