People are CRAZY!!

  1. My gosh... Tonight on our local news they were talking about this guy who walked into our local hospital (the one I work at) and went up to the 4th floor nurses station and demanded pain meds, the nurses asked was he a pt, and he said yes... They asked what room number and he gave the wrong number, so they refused pain meds.. Well the guy pulls out a gun and keeps demanding it... Someone called security, which called city police, but the guy fled..

I have been more worried about walking out in the parking lot at midnight, but geesh nowhere is safe anymore...

nurse2b, I am shocked that this doesn't happen on a regular basis. The security where I work is non-existant. Anyone can walk in whenever they want. We are also located in a less than wonderful neighborhood. Anyone ever pulls out a gun on me they will get whatever they want! I'm not dying for that stinkin place!! I'd be careful about walking around the lot at night. Try to buddy up with someone else.
    Stay Safe!!!

although there is a hospital directly in front of where i work, which has it own security, our facility does not. this is sad but am glad no one got hurt.

I've heard about incidents such as the one you describe... certainly makes one think about all the possibilites. The unit I work, for example... has a door from the outside just steps away... and we get all manner of people going in and out of it... just the other day, some guy came in from the street asking to use the phone :eek

TRUE STORY=====My former heroin addict brother in law (now dead, thank God) once walked into the Providence VA medical center and held a knife to a nurse neck for drugs. This goes back about 30 years but I remember it like yesterday. The Medical Centre police took care of it good and he faced a federal rap. It can happen anywhere, anytime, anyplace. Security can't be everywhere and it's a sick world we live in. Glad our office doesn't stock narcotics or samples.

I was over Oakland in Kaufmann building parking lot the other day. I took a sudden wrong turn and it suddenly seemed to me that I could enter what used to be Montifore Hospital from the garage from at any level. I hope I was mistunderstanding how the arrangement worked. If I found out about this little security glich I am sure anyone could.
