Our friends in Australia

  1. Australia Prime Minister John Howard says Australian troops should remain in Iraq until their work is done.

"This is the time to stand firm with our allies and our friends," he said.

"This is not a time for capricious policy-making on the run which is plainly against the interests of the people of Iraq.

"It's against the interests of the people of Australia, it gives comfort and encouragement to the terrorists and is a thoroughly bad policy all round."

Thank you Australia for not wanting to give comfort and encouragement to Terrorists.

I think they should stay too.... All 5 of them.

Seriously, I don't think any of the coalition countries should pull out. They started it, they should finish it.

With a rebuilt country and a new stable government in place, someday soon Iraq will be a much better place to live for millions of people there who do want peace and stability.

Bit of a tussle on here with the opposition leader feeling out the populace as far as what to do with the troops.

I want us out soon because I can see an increase in risk for every day that we are there. Forget the forward planning and our intentions - every day that we are there it becomes harder to convince the average man that we are there to stabilize not colonise. Every day the protest that this is temporary becomes thinner.

Remember that to many in the middle east our very culture is a threat to thier way of life. Threatened people strike out and hurt. Yes I want us out but ......... I look at all those countries that were left flat after colonial rule disintegrated and the mess that followed and I do not want that for them.

It is a difficult choice - how to do the right thing.
