Oprah Takes On Child Molesters

  1. (CBS) The queen of talk is taking on a new crusade, calling on her millions of viewers to help track down accused child molesters.

Oprah Winfrey told her audience, "It was as clear to me as if God himself spoke ... that this is what I'm supposed to do, with your help, America."

I have two thoughts on this matter:
    1) It's about time that a celebrity got involved in this issue!
    2) ...and who more right for the role than Oprah? She's a survivor herself!

Celebrities have been involved in this issue for quite awhile.

Exactly. Why Oprah is such a big deal is beyond me. I am really tired of her. But if her shining a spotlight on this horrible issue helps ANYone, I am all for it.

I will give her credit that at least her show isn't anything like Maury Povich, or any of the other i-don't-know-who-the-daddy-of-my-baby-is shows.

    And i agree, Deb.

It is a good idea to get child molesters off the streets but it's just a temporary fix. I'd like to see stiffer penalties for 1st time offenders, perhaps life in prison. Of course it would be expensive to house all of these offenders and our prisons are overcrowded as it is.

My solution would be to build facilities just for child molesters/sex offenders. Put them to work inside the facilities so they can help pay to run the facilities. Building new facilities would also create jobs in the these facilities in the corrections area so we could offer incentives to criminal justice programs.

I like Oprah and I like what she is doing. You go, Oprah.

Well that's just it, we don't find out that the offenders are not rehabilitated until someone else gets hurt again.

(Not that i believe that a sex offender can be rehabilitated.)

i think it is an admirable cause and am glad that she continues to use her money, fame and venue to help others, some ma or may not like her but she is doing more good in the world than harm, not too many celebs, or regular folks can claim that on the scale that she can. I respect her efforts.

Same here...I don't see how anyone could NOT like Oprah.

We all have our own opinions. I think she is very self-agrandizing. The whole stupid episode w/Hermes firmed that up just fine for me.

But that is just me I know.

Like I said, if anyone shines a spotlight on such issues and helps just one person, that is good enough for me. Does not mean I have to like the individual doing this. Nor does it change my opinion of her. I think she is doing what Martha Stewart (another one I am not too fond of) calls, a "good thing".

Anywho, What I was trying to type....

Anything to apprehend these child molestors. More important than whether or not Hermes kept her from shopping at their store.
