opinions?

  1. When is an appropriate age for ones child to go to their first concert? And should they go alone (with friends) or with an adult? I went to my first concert at age 14, with my 15 year old boyfriend, no chaperone. I don't remember how we paid for the tickets, I certainly didn't have a job. I assume I saved my allowance?

My 14 year old son wants to go see Linkin Park (sp?)....I guess I am more conservative than my parents, maybe because things are different now than they were then. I think he can go, but my husband should take him. My husband is concerned how the price of the ticket will be paid.

I just want to see what otehrs think, or others have done. Am I a hopeless old poop, or a good mom trying to watch out for her son's best interests?

I went to my first concert alone at age 14. There was a small group of us though, and it was a wayyyyyy different time. Is this in some big city? I don't know where you are from...

He should somehow pay you for the ticket...or make it a birthday gift/whatever.

Can your hubby just drive him/pick him up?

I was about nine or ten or elevan when I went to my first concert (honestly don't remember!). It was with our youth church group (made up of teenagers at the time. I went along for the ride because I was the P.K.)

    I saw Chicago! Way cool!

    Still love the group Chicago!

Hard to say, depends on where the concert is playing. I don't know if I'd let two kids go to a major city...things are too weird.
Guess it depends on the group, too.

I took my daughter and friends to concerts, and waited for them to finish, along with a whole lot of other parents. Many didn't go in with their kids, because the screaming was a little too much for adult ears..:chuckle! Let them go, and wait for them. That way if something happens, (concert doesn't happen, ends early...etc). you will be right there.

I went to my first concert when I was 15 with my mom, cause she rocks.

Hard tellin what I'd do sphinx. That's a more hard core group, and concerts are a little different these days (that makes me sound old). My son is too young to worry about it, but I think that unless it was a group I'd like to see myself, he'd have to wait until he was an adult and responsible for himself.

It's a pretty scary world now compared to 20 years ago. I ran around all over town by myself, but sure wouldn't let my kids do it now.

Would your son be embarrased to have you there? If so, I would like the idea of taking him and waiting outside for him.

Can he have a cell phone on so you can contact each other if needed?

    Are his friends levelheaded?

What about the band ? According to their own website, they are very "dark" .

Just show you care instead of trying to control and I'm sure you'll come up with a great solution!

I have to say that age doesn't always= maturity, because I got into a "scuffle" at a Paul Mc concert, and that was when I was in my late 20's, so you never know...

I took my daughter to see the Backstreet Boys when she was 13, she loved it. My son went to a summerfest concert when he was 16 with some friends and their mother who acts more like a teen than the teens.

I'm still a young' un and my mother didn't let me go to a concert until i was 16. However, she didn't let me go mostly b/c of WHO it was.....it was OzFest Anyways, now she's letting my 14 yr old sis go to a Good Charlotte concert in april. I think that you should make that call based on how mature he is, and if he can afford the ticket. Just my own opinion. ~Kacy

I would check out what you can about their concerts. Even though they're "dark", you probably won't see them biting the head off of a rat.

I did a search ongoogle for "linkin park concert" and got tons of sites. Some have pics and video footage. Best to make an informed decision. Good luck!

All I gotta say is that Linkin Park for a 14 yr old is WAYYYYY better than say.... Eminem or OxFest (see my above post ) ~Kacy
