Only trying to be Helpful...

  1. This guy from a credit bureau left a message on my cell phone. This is probably the second message he left (that I can remember).

He stated he has calling and leaving messages. Needs to speak to a MR. so and so. He sounded annoyed, or frustrated that he hasn't been able to get ahold of this Mr. so and so. Must be in some kind of financial trouble.

There are times I will return a call just to let the person calling they have the wrong number.

This time I decided to do that. I called the bureau. Say, peter was not available. The guy that seemed a little rude. Not polite anyways. Peter has no voicemail and is gone for the day. What can I do for you??

I said, let peter know that he called a wrong number. I didn't give my name. funny, I only remembered the first of the Mr. so and so. I guess next time I should write the full name. hehe.

Apparently this peter, makes at least two hundred calls a day. He wouldn't remember calling this mr. so and so guy.

But, if peter has been trying to reach this guy for a long time, wouldn't he remember mr. so and so.

What do you think? Should forget about returning messages and telling them have dialed the wrong number?? Especially if it was urgent???

Sorry for this lengthy story, I just had to get it out in the open.

Nah. Sounds like bill collector tactics. He was given a wrong number on purpose.

I'd call them everyday, every hour, just to tick em off...

If it keeps up I'd report it again...only next time ask to speak to a supervisor.

I don't even answer the phone anymore.

Me either!!! Since I got caller ID taken off to save a little $$$, I NEVER answer my phone unless I am on call for work!!! I just tell everyone to leave a message!!!

I kid you not, I got home tonight and within a 5 hour time span that I was gone, I had 6 messages from these ppl!!! 4 were those computerized "we have urgent information, please hold for the next available operator"...

Does ANYONE actually HOLD ON THE LINE for these creeps??? If you want to call me, then don't call and tell me to hold!!! Sheesh! The other 2 messages were from two different places for the same girl!!! These just started a few weeks ago, so I figure the girl gave out a phony (my) number to her creditors. It really irks me!

To answer your question, I wouldn't waste my time on it. Eventually they will figure out that the person isn't gonna call them back.

Here in Indiana we have a "don't call" list. It keeps those creeps from calling and it works great. When I do get the occasional call from a telemarketer I tell them they are breaking the law, and I would like the name, address, and phone number of their Co. as I plan on reporting them, and I may also sue them for invasion of privacy. They hang up quickly then. AS far as your situation Little One, I would call them and tell them they have a wrong number, and if they call you again they will be reported to the phone Co. for harrassing calls.

I would find that annoying. The fact that who ever is calling doesn't believe you when you respond there is no Dan. Then they start questions like, what is you name? , what is your number - I dialed....,

I was thinking I will get rid of my voicemail on my cell ( this is the number being called, my mobile phone.) since I don't use my cell that often. My friends call me at home. My cell is only used to call out now.

I will no longer try to be helpful. Just ignore the messages left. It is too much trouble to deal with callers like this.

Thanks for your replies and input.

Ditto Jon! Love the no call list here...but we still get crap at work, creditors calling in for employees...oh how I love when it's my turn to answer phones.

If it were me LO, I'd probably get a new number, I never wanted very many to have my cell number when I had one anyway...especially not weirdos

The Ohio State legislature is contemplating a "Do Not Call" list! I wanna be the FIRST on that thing! Course about the only telemarketing calls I get are from my credit card company with their special offers and I don't think that I can block those calls as I am doing business with the company. RATS!!!!!!

My phone number is one digit off from the phone # for a local family planing clinic. I can't tell you how many times people call me - I tell them they have the wrong number, they call right back - still the wrong #, and they call again .... Hey, what part of "you have the wrong #" did you not understand?!?

Would this CC company happen to be American Express??? We had the same thing happen a couple weeks back...they were asking for Mr. such and so. Called at least twice a day and left messages...we never called them back and eventually it stopped. Funny how they SOUND like it's really important huh?
