online dating???

  1. Well, I saw a post about this before, but I was just wondering how many of you have dated someone that you met online. Good experience or bad experience? Any horror stories or just sweet stories??? I know some ppl who say that it is a very bad idea and very dangerous to meet someone from online. Others say it is no different than meeting someone at a bar or other social place where you actually see them face to face before you decide to get together. whats the concensus???
  2. Poll: Have you met in person and started dating someone that you first met online?

    • I see nothing wrong with it, but personally would never do it.

      28.57% 12
    • I am now in a long term relationship with the love of my life whom I met online

      28.57% 12

Heh heh. Yeah. I tried it for a year. I posted details here previously. Not doing it again.

But, some have done it very successfully. My best friend met the love of her life RICK that way, some others on this board met their significant others that way and are doing fine.

Well its been over two years now for the love of my life and I....

We were both very cautious about meeting for the first time...He wanted to come up here to meet me so that I was close to friends, family, and in my own element. (He's American, I'm Canadian)
We still laugh about how we met.... I had ever been to a chatroom before and he just started...and yet, for some reason I was compelled to message this guy....I couldn't tell you why I did, and he can't tell you why he replied.
That first day we met....that first hug, that first kiss....well as they say our fate is sealed and the rest is history.!!!! He isn't just my man, he's my best friend, confidant, cheering section, everything!

P.S.- If you had asked me this question BEFORE him and I met, I would have said that person was right bloody loony to even think about meeting someone online.! (my how we whistle a different tune when the table is turned)

dawn, my experience is just like yours! i dont know why i 'had' to respond to my honey, but i did, and he did, and we met and dated for 3 years and now have been married for 4. it is the best thing i ever did. i also dated quite a few, most only one time LOL before meeting this one. it was interesting, and i never forgot the rules of meeting in public places, etc, all the safety rules applied here. good luck!

I met my husband online almost 4 (?!) years ago. It wasn't an online dating situation, we met in a compu-geek chat room when I was looking for help with my brand new first computer. It turned out we lived 'near' eack other (Moore to Stillwater, OK).

Our first date was at a computer store, my first "gift" was 64 mg of RAM.

Things aren't going so great right now but I still count him as "the love of my life".

Dawn, Kids, and Jags: I too met my SO online--and we are going on 4yrs now! We have a beautiful little boy too. We felt like we had known each other forever. It's almost as if we knew each other in a past life--we are like two friends that were parted years ago and have just been reunited. The first time I saw his face was like..." Oh it's you! I've missed you so much!" We just started talking in a chatroom and became friends..then phone calls, letters and pictures followed. Then visits. He left everything behind in Arizona..came all the way across the country to be with me.

I'm in a long-term relationship of six years. But I wouldn't object to it if I were single. I've met some friends from an old webtv discussion group that were local and we had a good time.

However, although there are lots and lots of sucess stories, I've heard of more failures than not.

A good cyberfriend practically had herself married to her cyber love. They met, did the nasty thing, and she never heard from him again. In hindsight she thinks he was married. But you never know until you try.

I think if I were single and ready to date, the internet would be only one of several things I would try. But when I was single, I was terminally single, didn't worry about dating or finding anyone, was very happy alone.

Dang...What site did YOU all mingle at? My experience has been hit and miss, but never "significant other" material!

What, you didn't like either? Was that you who gave them my email address??
