Online Book Club anyone?

  1. I've always wanted to join a book club, you know where everyone reads a book and then discusses it once a week or something, but I'm to lazy to go out and find one in my area.

I don't know if anyone's done that here, but anyone else think it might be fun to start?

We could pick a book, set an amount of time to read it or parts of it, then discuss it here.

What do you guys think? Anyone interested in doing this?

Actually, Jaded, we have done this in the past, with varied rates of success. If you are interested and want to take the lead, by all means, go for it!

Oh goodness between my eyes and my neck I'm good to read 1/2 a chapter a night. I would enjoy reading any comments from the book club though. That's where I get my ideas for my next read. BTW my DD just completed Harry Potter 5 in less than 4 days. grrrrrr. It will probably take me the rest or 2003 to finish it. I'm just about fininshed with Shelters of Stone that I started back in May.

P_RN, have you tried "audio books"? I listen to books on tape/cd on my way to and from work (1 1/4 hr drive each way), that is the way I get most of my books in...including HP5. It's great, just sit back and let someone read to you. I would be interested in a book club too by the way.

just started the "LEFT BEHIND" series....

a bit of religious/spirituality/mystery type reading. LONG series I understand. But I am told by everyone it is riveting. So far, I have to agree.

    Anyone care to join me?

I know this has been tried several times and it's a great idea in theory. It just doesn't seem to actually *happen*. I belong to an MSN community for book lovers where each member posts their thoughts on the book(s) they are reading and others jump into the thread if they're interested. That book community is where I get most of my recommendations for what to read next. We don't have a "book of the month" kind-of thing although we are thinking of trying that too, in addition to our usual style of individual posting.

I'd be happy to send anyone an invite to the community if they're interested in checking it out. It does require an MSN passport (free of charge) as it is an MSN community. It's called "A Bookworm Hangout. " Send me a PM with your email address and I can send an invite, if you'd like.

I have picked up a couple of reading ideas here on allnurses, too, when we post on the "What are you reading now" thread.
