Okay, I have some really dumb questions about the graduation ceremony for high school

  1. I'm getting nervous about GRADUATING! Can you believe it. I think it's just because I don't know how the ceremony will go.

What do I wear under my gown?

Are you supposed to walk any special way?

    Are there rehersals?

Do I have to say anything?

Tell me EVERYTHING!!!! I am nervous. PLEASE don't think that I am crazy for asking this.

Congratulations!!!!!!!!! What a big day for you.

Eons ago when I graduated from High School I wore a very nice beige/cream colored dress under my gown. 1) because I think the ladies are supposed to wear skirts that are shorter than their gown and 2) because my gown was white and we had to wear something that wouldn't show through. So, depending on what color your gowns are that might be something to consider.

There is no special way to walk, but you will probably want to give a hand shake to the person that hands you your diploma or any other teachers, principles, etc. that are special to you and that are up on stage as you walk past them. Kind of a show of thanks or respect.

Usually the only person that speaks is the VV so unless you are that/those people you probably won't have to say a word.

cool! thank you. That was my main concern on how to dress. I have no clue what color the gowns are. I just ordered mine today. the school decides that I think. I'm guessing black. I have a really cute skirt outfit that I could wear.

How many people do I shake hands with. What hand to I take the diploma with :S

    lol too many questions!

when i graduated in 1996, the girls wore white and the guys wore navy blue (school colors) we had to wear a white dress and white shoes and stockings, (i didn't wear those b/c i detest them) when I graduated from college, everyone wore black caps and gowns, really nice in the freaking sun for 3 hours!!! when it is time for you to get your diploma, take it with your left hand, and shake with your right hand, this way it goes smoothly, if you take the diploma in your right hand then you have to stop, put the diploma in your left hand and then shake, slows down the line... at my high school grad, I had to shake hands with the principal and in college, had to shake hands with the pres and then back to my seat. I do remember having a dress rehersal for my high school graduation so everyone knew where and how to line up. For college, they just gave me a slip of paper that had where to line up and what number in line I was. No one paid attention to these and I actually walked with my husband through the line. Hope this helps, don't be nervous, just enjoy the day!

More than likely they will have a rehearsal for the seniors so everyone knows what's going on the day of.

I remember for my HS grad. girls had to wear white gowns and boys had to wear "gold" but it really looked like a nasty mustard color.

We had to order and pay for our gowns also and they were the cheapest things ever! They were made out of acetate and our graduation was outside and for a few minutes it started to sprinkle and everyone started commenting on how the gowns were so cheap they would probably disintigrate in the rain.

College was the same thing only they were black and maybe just a little bit nicer.

    Good luck with everything!

    Congratulation!

    :hatparty: :hatparty:

I would suggest that you wear at least underwear underneath your gown! I wore shorts. Our graduation ceremony was held outside and it was hot!

When you walk, walk on your feet! Preferably in a straight line unless there's turns to be made.

Rehearsals?!? Seriously, there usually is one. At least there was one for us. . . mainly just a "talk through"!

Will you have to say anything? "Look, Mom, I gradumicaed!"

Hopefully, your school will provide more answers for you.

Again, Congratulations to you and to everyone who graduates from High School and College!

    Warm regards and humor,

hmm... I'm gonna see if I can locate the graduation article for my school...
it was nice... we had a rehearsal that morning... and, it was on the football field in the hot, hot, hot sun...
our color was maroon....under the dress.... we wore our nursing whites... we graduated high school and got pinned at the same ceremony... it was nice...
um...tho.... I'll let you in on a good ol' Curtis High School Tradition.... its the 'blowup doll' and 'beachball' review... they got tossed around.... but... every time we had a speaker, it got quiet... we were good kids... ok... I'll find that article...

and.... odds are, you just sit... pick up an award if you have one...
and sit more... then, stand, grab and shake...

    hehehe...
just think... in 10 months, I'll be doing it all over again!!!

Just went through this with my son last week. He graduated Saturday. You usually will have a rehearsal the day before. The teachers will talk you through it. At my sons school they sent home a letter telling you what color dress or slacks and shoes to wear. Also you would know well before hand if you had a speaking part. And I agree with the above poster who said take your diploma in your left hand so you can shake hands with your right (saves alot of juggling and confusion). For the most part just relax and have a good time. Enjoy your graduation and Congrats!!
