Oh boy....son has pink eye...

  1. My 11 year old woke up this morning, and his eye was all blood shot and matted. Yuck....I could tell from 6 feet away without my glasses on that the child has pink eye....but the "best" part of the story is...my husband's entire family was here last night for Christmas. All 30 of them....

Called our doctor this morning to get my kid some drops for his eye. I told him about our big family gathering last night and his reply was: "Oh boy." So I have contacted the whole family about the pink eye....so we will see what happens....

Lord, isn't that the luck! However, as a former preschool teacher, I will tell you don't worry too much. I had kids turn up after nap with the nastiest, gooiest, reddest eyes, and nobody else would get it. Maybe you'll be lucky!

First of all, it's not necessarily infectious conjunctivitis. He doesn't necessarily need to be on antibiotic eye gtts. You shoud try to find out for sure.

I have treated blepheritis with diluted baby shampoo and water.

Good luck. Ihad it in my last mo of my last pregnancy. HOW my family did NOT get infected was a miracle and thru LOTS of handwashing on all our parts. I am sorry for this! (((((((((((dee))))))))))

Oh, we have been washing our hands very well. My niece had spent the weekend with us (she is 13). I told her this morning to make sure that she washes her hands and not to touch her fingers to her face.

What is blepheritis and how does it differ from pink eye?

One of my 3 would pick up pink eye now & then...the only time a siblings caught it was if they mistakenly shared a wash cloth to wash their faces.

Well I wouldnt be so upset, If you had 30 people in your home and all of them family you will have all the understanding of how these things happen and those are the breaks.
I do hope your son feels better soon, its a shame on his christmas break this happens.
Be very very very thankful it wasnt lice.
I got one of those calls once from a family reunion and I thought I would die, when a "cousin" (a blacksheep with very little bridges left to burn) called us to let us know that her boyfriend had lice and she just wanted to inform me so Since I was a nurse I could call the rest of the family and explain it to them. There is nothing worse than having to call all these people and inform them of the wonderful news because then your stuck with "Coming By" and checkin everybody.
    Oh yeah.
as Yoda would say "May the force be with you."
    Just a few thoughts

I was curious too, so I looked it up in the Taber's:

Blepharitis - Ulcerative or nonulcerative inflammation of the hair follicles and glands along the edges of the eye lids. Etiology - The ulcerative type is usually caused by staphylococci. The cause of the nonulcerative type is unknown; it may be due to allergy or exposure to dust, smoke, or irritating chemicals.

Deespoohbear, hope your son is feeling better! :kiss

Zoe, I am not terribly worried that my hubby's family will get it (except maybe for my 83 y/o FIL). I actually thought the timing was ironic...the whole family here...and my kid gets pink eye....Actually my husband's family was very nice about the whole thing..(he has 3 brothers and 3 sisters)....

Aaron's eye is looking much better today.....he says it doesn't bother him at all. He was more upset about having to cancel our Christmas dinner with some special friends than having pink eye...
