Off Topic

  1. I posted these suggestions on the "site feedback" section but as far as I can tell only a few people have seen them so here goes.

I would like the "off topic " section to be a little more lively so we can let our hair down and get to know one another but at present not many posters and lurkers seem to know that it is here.

I understand why Brian keeps this forum "behind" the main board - and that is to keep it out of the public eye so that we can let our hair down a little more.

So how do we attract more posters to this section without making it public again? What about a permanent thread at the top of the "ACTIVE THREAD" section like the threads here about teh new mods and the new TOS. but this onw just explains how to get to the "Off topic" section and what it's pupose is.

I also suggested we cahnge the name from "Off Topic" to something like "The Coffee Shop" or "Off Duty Arena" or even "Chitter Chatter". Any other suggestions?

    "Backroom Breakroom"

The other ones are too randy to mention!

I like the idea of a coffee room etc. I will remind Brian to check the feedback again.

Oh No, here we go again, people will get hurt feelings and complain and ruin it for the majority.

Maybe not if the sticky included a warning like: For those not easily offended or Do not enter if easily offended something like that. pr maybe Caution gloves are off in this area. Why couldnt that work?

Because if someone is easily offended, they will still be offended at the fact that there is a forum that is excluding them. Excluding meaning that they can't participate since they are easily offended. And many people that are easily offended will go there deliberately TO be offended, just so they can stir the pot.

Yes they may come in there on purpose but then the mods would know that they went in there to make trouble on purpose and they could just remind whoever is offended that they were warned and should not have gone to that area. See my point.

The War and Terrorism Thread doesn't show up until you log in either. There seem to be plenty of people who log in and post. I'm not exactly sure what it would accomplish to make this visible to those who just "lurk" . . . most of us know it is there and can post if we wish.

Off Topic seems to describe exactly what the thread is about. But changing the name would be no big deal . . .again, not exactly sure what it would accomplish that we cannot already do.

Start a thread about something you wish to talk about . . . seems that easy.

That sounds very simular to the old style.............we used to let our hair so much more BUT now we have to be PC as not to offend

People's sense of humour is very different.........so comments made can easy be misinterpreted

Oh lets please not go there.

We've demonstrated over and over that we can't handle the "freedom".

It will never work, lets not get folks riled up again. Because there is always one person just waiting to cause trouble.

Honestly I was not trying to stir up trouble I just wanted to make sure that newbies knew thier way here. I LIKE meeting people in an informal forum but I can also see why it is not out on the main thread section.

I was getting concerned that in only having it set up the way it was can, again lead to feelings of an "exclusve" club. I also noted that when I log into here there is or was only 1 or 2 people also logged on. I talked about how to access this section on the thread "have you noticed the # guests on the BB" and noticed immediately the numbers trebled!!! Could have been co-incidence. but I think not.

No suggestions for any change here, I'm new to the board, but have been a total post-whore! Now I would never say anything like that in any of the other forums, but I feel comfortable saying it in the "Off Topic" forum. I don't feel like their is any exclusivity, people have been generally nice and welcoming. And, I would think that thoe who didn't know their way around a BB would either read the TOS and F.A.Q/help sections or scope out all of the forums and get a general sense of the tone around here. Well, it worked for me anyway!
