Obnurseheather?

  1. Heather,

I think I remember on another thread you mentioned about either a download or software that prevents pop up ads. Could you share that info? I am soooo sick of the massive amt of pop ups while I'm online. It seems like they are worse then ever.
    Thanks

Ya know what Kaycee? I forgot to ask my hubby. I will ask him when he gets home today and PM you.

The download was totally free, and works! There's one site I go to that still gets a few pop-ups, but they're minimal, and they're not "that" kind of pop-up!

    Talk to ya later!

Stop it. Quit moaning. :-) I get the pop-ups too. You can't stop them, and no quack "program" is gonna halt these popups. Just think of it as a game. You can hear the popups coming when your hard drive starts to whirl, or you can often see additional windows appear that you did not initiate. Usually the popups come when you go to various sites.
Close them. Just open'em and close'em. I have a 56K connection, so pop ups impede whatever I'm trying to do. No one wants to read about a vacation deal, or whatever.
Remember that arcade game where you had to hit the popup on the board? (like a poppet?) It used to be at video arcades back in the 80's and it was for kids? Think of the popups as those things, and you have to "pop them" by closing their window with the "x" in the top right. I'm sorry. Humble. :-)

Hmmm.... so what do you have to say about the fact that I hardly get pop-ups? Hardly sounds like a quack program to me. In fact, the program works so well, that I have to disable it in order to upload pics to my personal website (because it's done with a series of POP UP WINDOWS).

Mario - maybe you should try it too?

    Heather,
I tried one of them dar programs and I could not surf! There were very few sites I could get onto. Can you email me the program and where you got it, I'd love to try it. Those pesky things have popped up so much, it has crashed our computer!

    Thanks

CANRN - I had the problem before with so many pop-ups popping up that it would tie up the computer.

As soon as I find out where hubby got it, I'll let you know!

do you like the taste of your foot in your mouth or what?
do you leave your socks on or do you take them off before you insert foot?

there are plenty of programs, some are free, some are not, that stop pop up ads and banners.
right now i am using a program called no ads. it works pretty well and its easy to use. it shows you what windows are open and you can add the popups to a list that will stop them from ever coming up again. if you put the wrong window into the list you can take it back out again. its a small prog that sits in your toolbar
so you can open it when you want. its supposed to detect the ad windows and automatically close them but its not always consistent. i like it because i have control over which windows it stops from opening and because its so unobtrusive.
of course there are lots more programs out there. here is a link to where you can "shop" for them and download:

    http://www.search.com/search?q=pop%2...&ref=shareware

another good one is ad muncher but thats shareware (you get a free trial but when it expires it stops working). i loved that prog...no popups opened EVER. but it expired and im too cheap to pay for software.

dont be afraid to download new things on your comp. sometimes these progs work and sometimes they dont. if they dont just delete them and try something else. on the other hand, dont download something if you cant even understand the description.
you probably wont be able to get it to work.
    hope this helps

    :chuckle

I think the one we have is called no ad also. If I do get a pop-up, I can right click and one of my options is to add it to the block list. Sounds similar to your program thisnurse.

Sounds like we both have the same "quack" program!

Look, I have an older machine, running WIN95 with a 486. Maybe you wealthy folks with the super computers can run all these wonderful programs. I can't. So leave me alone and let me deal with popups my own way. I don't need or want anyone to snipe me for just dealing with and hushing my own popups. Please (humor :-)
If you kept your cookies clean, then yewd be able to control popups as well. Leave me alone.
