Nurses Who Play Poker

  1. anyone interested in starting a texas holdem league?

We can do it online at party poker, poker stars, or whatever everyone chooses....

Low buy ins, but play on a weekly basis.......Maybe make a website, keep points and so forth.

    What do you think?

How funny that this post appears today! I've been at home with the flu all week, losing a lot of "play money" on Pokerstars. (I'm just a beginner, but have dreams of grandeur.)

I'm happy to hear I am not the only one. :-)

Technically, how would one go about that? Can you reserve a table? .... limit access to members only? etc. I'm not quite ready yet to jump into the pool for real money in significant amounts, but might be willing to lose a little among friends. I think the minimum buy in on Pokerstars is $100. That's a little more than I would like to start with, but I'd consider it.

Aren't there any games that you like to play?

I like poker because somebody "wins" every few minutes. You don't have to play for an hour before there is a winner as you do with some games. That's what I always hated about Monopoly as a kid. It took too long before there was any reward.

Poker is also a game which is social. People talk, laugh, joke, etc. even on-lline. It's also a culture in which eccentricities are tolerated. You can be a little wierd and still be considered OK.

What i'm saying it, it's on TV, it's everywhere on the net, you see the "poker starter kits" in store, just trying to figure out what the surge in its popularity stems from?

One of the reasons for the surge in popularity is that the TV folks have learned to broadcast it in a more entertaining way -- with cameras that let you see everyone's cards, etc. In the past, the production values of the broadcasts were not that high. Then The Travel Channel started The World Poker Tour and increased the TV audience -- both because of the slicker production, but also because of the consistent format, consistent players, etc.

Once they got people watching on TV who previously had not watched ... many of those people wanted to give it a try for themselves. One thing lead to another ... a few celebrities became involved ... and the game grew in popularity.
