Nurses on TV worst and the best

  1. Which do you think is the TV show with the most unrealistic view of nursing and/or hospital? And which is the one with the most realistic view:-

My vote for the best goes to a british comedy called "Surgical Spirit" Loved the RN in charge of theatre - always on the brink of a breakdown from arguing with management doing staffing and dealing with doctors.

My worst - although it is now off-air was "General Hospital" because it never had a patient that wasn't related to one of the staff or about to fall in love with one of the staff..........

I think that Soaps do portray nursing as pretty easy. And have you ever noticed patients in a coma or unconsious with no bed rails. No IV's. Or 4 visitors at an ICU bed?

I used to like Carol Hathaway on ER. Not always true to the profession, but I also don't remember her doing anything way out of line. I also remember that she never got to sit back and put her feet up. She was always having to run here and there.

Another show was Nightgale's. It was about several nursing students. I used to love that show. Don't know what happened to it.

I don't watch soaps so I can't pick from there, I like the nurse on ER, they get puked on and told off and never sit down, they are the most realistic. I don't like any with nurses wearing caps, I think the caps are so demeaning.

I always felt the nurses portrayed on ER were the most realistic. This is probably going to date me abit, but I remember the show with Chad Everett! I think it was called Medical Center, anyway the nurses always seemed to be wearing white high heels! God love 'em for being able to run a floor in heels!!!

Did anyone ever watch MDs? Not sure if it's still on the air or not, but I saw a few episodes, and thought it even though it was a little outlandish, it was pretty good. I really liked how they portrayed the struggle to provide quality care vs. administration wanting to keep costs down.

Let's see Star Trek (original) Nurse Christine Chapel....she and Bones could fix any ailment. But she became a doc in the movie releases....

DOOL's Nurse Brenda is the only nurse I ever see in University Hospital. She runs triage, ICU, ER, OR, she manages test result calling, collects specimens for DNA are US. Salem probably has its on genotype so many are done there.

I like the ER nurses as more likely to be kinda real. Abbey and Halleah are my favorites. Cluny tells it like she sees it too. They know what they're doing. They show the doc where the towels are to clean up a patient.

But one thing gets to me NO ONE EVER WRITES ANYTHING DOWN....I guess that obviates being sued though...not written not done? No, THAT patient didn't come HERE.
