Nurse Sacred Cow

  1. l've always wondered how some pple get to be the ''Sacred Cows" at work....you know the untouchables.....usually they are the long-timers, but not always.....Anyway...where l work they practically push nurses out the door if census is low............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .................................even in the ER where l :chuckle pple have complained but to no avail.....l would never get away with this...l worked with a nurse at my previous job who was totally useless...(another long timer)..the first day we moved into the new ER, she had a pt w/ cp...she was walking around in the ER for abou30 minutes trying to oversee the placement of some equipment...carrying the syringe of MS for the cp pt the whole time...!!!! the pt left AMA!!......yet..l would have been crucified!....let's step in the time machine again...another previous job.....Oral Surgery.....l was talked to because l allegedly left a room dirty...no dates, no documentation, of course...no names of the ''complaining party....l'm like..''l don't remember...'' after lunch that day Nurse Sacred Cow takes a pt back and puts him under general anesthesia...surgeon walks in..."why the %($@ is this pt asleep??''....shoots me a look.....Nurse Sacred Cow..says ''oh my!...l put him under....wasn't he supposed......"...well they all laugh and tease her unmercifully....NO PENALTY!!.....and again....l would have been burned at the stake.......l just gotta know, what is it with these pple??? they aren't particularly bright or beautiful....how do they keep their jobs and be so popular??? they are totally useless...(except first cheapo nurse is a good nurse)....l don't get it....l'm just venting......but thanks for listening.............LR

l.rae....(((hugs))) You're a riot! :chuckle I can recall only having worked with nurses like this from time to time, but no one face comes to mind. They DO exist, and it does make you wonder why they aren't sent packing with their stethoscope and nurse pouch. Vent all you want, my friend. It's good for the soul to get it out.......and laugh at it all when it's done. You either laugh or cry, and there's nothing wrong with doing both from time to time. Keeps one's stress factor down. :kiss

I used to work with a nurse on night shift in LTC who was a chronic late leaver too, but she was NOT the sacred cow...Our ADON and DON kept asking the other night nurse and me "Why are you two able to get your work done and get out on time and she isn't?" How do you say..."Because she is trying to get all the overtime she can"?

karalea....Yes, that is it! this nurse l work wth is an exellent nurse so there is no question she has organizational skills...they KNOW what she's up to.....that's what makes me want to scream....they say she has always done this...so there is no crisis need for this money...she is very comfortable...older..established and married......l mean if someone is desperate for money, l could turn a blind eye..in a way it's none of my bees wax...but in a way it is when everyone else has to leave early....yet we still work short alot.....if they would make her cut thisout then she would have to pick up open shifts and help out if she wants the money that desparatly.....we have plenty to pick up that is for sure.....LR

Unfortunately we have a few scary aides that everybody is afraid to do anything about. They think they can get away with anything, and most of the time they do. >:<

I am not really sure why some people can get away with the things they do. At times I have thought that they were suck-ups, or something of that nature. At other times, I felt that they had so much "dirt" on somebody that they were feared, and could do as they pleased. I am not sure what the real answer is.

Yea~ the last place I worked had people who would stay overtime in the smoking room! It was weird.....nurse and aides alike would be in there smoking and chatting away for up to an hour after I came on shift.....
I always wondered about it, but I don't work there now, so I don't really care if they've moved in!
