Any of you have family members with a radio controlled RC hobby? I am curious about how much this hobby costs to get into. And any other pertinent information you'd like to share.

Oh LORD! My hubby is into those RC cars. Can get expensive. Into the few hundred dollar range depending what they end up buying. Be it a kick ass motor or wheels or tires or a body or whatever. He bought an RC motorcycle just a few months ago for $250. He has to ask if he buys something over $100 or so. I had to say yes to the RC motorcycle because he bought it with $300 HE won in Vegas!
I would have to ask if you wanted something more specific...

Thanks for the info Kristi. 1st) Where does he go to buy them...A specialty hobby store? Where does he race them? Does he buy the whole kit or a few parts at a time? Will I have to build the entire engine or does it come in one piece and just stick it in the frame? How about you? do you participate?

My husband has an RC car and it's a fairly expensive hobby. Car itself totally stripped out was $500; repairs and upgrades can cost around $250 each time.
Here is my hubby's truck
He bought it originally on-line, I think through some RC Hobby club, but buys some parts and things at a hobby store near us here. I will ask him the website he placed his order from.

My hubby buys most of his parts from hobby shops. He trades other pieces back and forth with his brother and buddy that are into this also. And eBay... he has gotten several doohickeys off eBay. He usually races them on dirt lots and such. Apparently there is a guy with a big dirt lot either on or near his property where several guys get together to race. Sometimes he just goes out into the parking lot of our apts and drives back and forth.
I very rarely participate. They're fun to watch once in awhile but I'm not like wow! look at the _____ on that guys machine! Boring to me. I'd rather not stand around out in the heat getting sunburned watching a bunch of guys race their cars for 10 minutes, then spend 20 minutes fixing them, then race for another 10 minutes...etc. But I'm a girl that way.
