Next chapter in my post root canal saga...HELP?

  1. Hi all,
As some of you know..I had a root canal done awhile back (on my back bottom molar). Anyways..while waiting for the infection to clear up..I unexpectedly...bit on something hard and fractured the tooth. Since the crack didn't go thru the root area...there was a 50/50 chance that the tooth could be saved. Well....at that point...I decided to try and save the tooth and go for the crown. I was actually supposed to go in today..but the receptionist called me this morning and said 'oh, they forgot to quote you for the build up and post"....which is another 240 dollars...uggghh. So...that's nearing 1000 dollars on one stinking tooth. My other problem is that the tooth (now with a temp. crown) is still painfully sore when I chew. They said that there may be a microscopic crack in the root area that doesn't show up. Well...now what the heck do I do?? They've added on yet..more money to this whole fiasco' ...the tooth is still hurting..etc. I don't want to be "built up" "posted" "crowned"...only to have the tooth still bother me and have all that work and money "extracted". So...I think i've decided to have it pulled. Has anyone here had a tooth pulled? Does it hurt? Will he give me pain meds afterwards? The root canal didn't hurt hardly at all....I took a few Tylenol and that's all I needed. I have to believe that pulling a tooth would be more painful though? Does anyone have any advice or experience with this?? I'm scared.

Pulling a tooth is not painful, I can't compare to a root canal as I have never had one done. But I have had ALL my wisdom teeth pulled and it wasn't that bad. Just think you will not have to worry about it again once it's gone. That sure is alot of money to spend for one lil tooth.

    Good Luck.

I don't understand why you are having any pain at all. The root canal was supposed to remove the root so you would not have pain. Is the pain coming from soft tissue? If so, why are you extracting the tooth??? Anyway, to answer your question, an extraction should not be too uncomfortable and you should not require pain meds after, unless there is something else going on.
