New Year's Plans Dashed - Last Minute

  1. I am so bummed.

Ok, so we make plans with BOB and his girlfriend to go to this nice dinner out for New Year's. Normally my husband and I would've gone to probably a lesser extravagent place, but seeing as this was with another couple we decided to hit it. Bob and his girlfriend selected a restaurant (not my first choice but since they wanted it - why not?) They also suggested a late dinner - around 9. So I call, make reservations, and am lucky enough to get one. Cool!

Last night the restaurant calls to confirm, seeing as it's New Years yanno - big night - making sure plans didn't change. Nope, still on, I say. See you then.

So this morning I get an email from Bob - his girlfriend's got a cold. Sorry, gotta cancel.

We're kinda in a jam! W're not certain we would've gone to this place, at 9pm, by ourselves if given the option. Also, would have probably made other plans if it was just the two or us. Also, there's no way we can get another reservation at another restaurant of choice at this hour!

Man! I'm bummin'. What should we do???

is there time for Stargazer to hop a flight to replace the sickly gf? the sickly one is obviously not worthy of a godlike creature such as BOB.....

I was just thinking she sounded a little high-maintenance myself--which I, of course, am not.

Bob actually said he considered going out with us still, but decided to stay home with her to take care of her. Noble, I must say. But still....damn! Come on! You don't cancel shyt like this at 0800 the day of! Not to mention, my husband doesn't even know this yet!

Maybe I'm just unsympathetic, but I gotta be pretty damn sick to cancel something like this - on New Year's Eve. Besides, she's gotta eat doesn't she?

Susy, unless you really want to go out...I would suggest taking Baseline's suggestion. Who knows, maybe your hubby will be glad that they cancelled?!

    Happy New Year!

Susy, is it worth the hassle to try for standby reservations at some other restaurants? There's bound to be other folks with altered or cancelled plans, and it's usually easier to fit in a couple rather than a larger party.

I dunno. New Year's sucks and I'm pissy today. New Year's has been such a disappointment each and every year, which is why when I was on the floors I usually worked.

God, why couldn't they have indicated this a bit earlier????

Aww Sorry Suzy, I feel the same way. I HATE NEW YEARS' with a passion. I usually try to work those nights. This year, all the New Year shifts were covered, so I am gonna be home. New Year's was a time my parents and their friends used to get stinking drunk and act like idiots. Bad memories. I take a very different approach. I prefer a quite New Years myself, trying to anticipate the GOOD things coming my way the next year. And I can't say goodbye to 2002 FAST ENOUGH!

Of course, with kids, not much choice, quiet is the rule...... But when you have big plans, it is a sour disappointment to see them fall like a flattened souffle. I hope you find alternative plans that work out and you have some fun. Happy New Year, my friend!
