We have what we've always called a "junk-food fiesta". We don't eat a regular sit-down dinner, just chips, salsa, popcorn, peanuts, pretzels, cookies, and all the other stuff civilized people consider snack foods. This so-called 'tradition' started way back when I was about nine or ten---it was the one night of the year when I could stay up till midnight and eat as much junk as I wanted. Great memories!

Cabbage rolls and green beans. Toast with champagne. We actually had a very expensive bottle given to us as a wedding present for this NYE, but it'll wait till next year.

I answered 'none' but I do in fact eat lots of junk food too! Chips salsa, shrimp cocktail, cheese/crackers, candy....You know, all party food!

Growing up in western Pennsylvania, pork and sauerkraut was the tradition. People use all types of pork, chops, roast, ribs, sausage, hot dogs, etc. Not ham so much, but I think that's just because it doesn't go as well with sauerkraut. It was on sale at all the markets and on the buffets of all the very high class establishments I was given to frequenting, lol... Dh, who grew up in San Francisco had never heard of it as a New Year's tradition, but given that it is his favorite meal, he's all for having it every year.

So did I miss the announcement, or is this an annoucement? Congrats if it is!!!!! I love cabbage rolls but my husband is such a fussy eater. It isn't just that he doesn't like them- I have stuff he doesn't like all the time because he works so many nights- but he also complains about the smell. Cabbage rolls are another thing they make great in western PA- the influence of all the Eastern Europeans that settled there, I think. /

My family gets together for a big potluck buffet. Everybody brings something, we eat, play cards or trivial pursuit, then we toast with champagne at midnight.
