New Orleans Police

  1. "Unprecedented" strain on the New Orleans Police may help explain the videotaped beating of a retired teacher, some say.

I saw this on the news. All I have to say is "what a shame"

Rife with corruption, now they are under the spotlight, thanks to the hurricane. New Orleans gov't is infamous for its incredible and unshakable corruption. I found the video very hard to watch and infuriating.

I don't know. I don't think it is necessary to punch someone in the face 30 times. Have them spit out clots of blood....
Being married to a police officer, I find this shameful. I'd be asking my husband why did you feel the need to beat him bloody?.

there are other ways to subdue someone who resists arrest.

    I agree 100% JoAnn.

It's another black eye for the police----unfair. But most unfair to the victim. We need to stop these sorts fo things.

Quite frankly, I can understand the sentiment.

But that does NOT excuse the behaviour.

It's a disservice to the policemen who don't engage in this kind of behavior. I'm sure there must be some really good cops in New Orleans.. at least I hope so.

yep. That dept. needs a major overhaul. The moral is low, and that just adds fuel to the fire.
but, it will be played over, and over and over...making all cops look bad.

I saw the video again last night on one of the news channels..I really wish they'd quit showing it over and over and dragging it out like the Abu Garub prison abuse debacle, which only involved a few bad apples.

And I a, equally tired of the officers attorney accusing the man of being blatantly drunk and fighting the officers. And regardless, punching anyone in the head, is blatantly againt any department's policies. The man was punched, in the head, a minimum of four times and perhaps more. He was down on the ground and they coninued to punch him in the head. And then there is the over-reaction of the supervisor, against a member of the press, and his physical, unproked altercation.

Drunk or not the man should not have been beaten.. my objection is to the media replaying the video over and over again just like they did the Abu Gharib prison abuse pictures..I think it's a disservice to the good cops out there.
