New Composition

  1. It's been nearly one year since I composed a new musical piece. Just been too busy.

Well, the other day I forced myself to sit down and write away. . .

Here's the product of about 1 week's worth of writing, recording and mixing. I forget how much I love doing this stuff!

We just can't let a busy life get in the way of one's passion. . .

This instrumental is (how can I catagorize it???), a light progressive rock/jazz fusion piece. It's not brilliant. Heck! I'm a bit rusty the writing/composing/arranging music thingy! But I had a wonderful time tapping into an old energy of sorts. One that's been neglected, sadly.

The name of the piece is Common Ground. It's an mp3 file, roughly 4 MB's in size. Faster modems should have no problem listening to the piece. Slower modems, on the other hand, might.

    At any rate, enjoy!

    And Peace!

    Ted

A sort of mellow jazz - very nice. I liked it very much thanks Ted! The mental image I get is of a park with people playing and walking around.

Ted -- Don't have the facility to open and play your file, but wanted to congratulate you nonetheless.

Know exactly how much fun composing, performing and mixing music can be. Been doing this for several years in my spare time. (Part-time musico since 9th grade. Sing, and play guitar, bass and some keys.)

Have a digital recorder in a spare bedroom. (Like that there's almost no need to practice for many things: if the take / part / etc. doesn't work, hit undo and go for it again!) However, with school, work, and family, don't get in there anymore as much as I should.

Looking forward to being off from school later this month (till September) and messing around some.

    Take care!

would love to hear some of your compositions! feel free to add them to this thread if you want! they're meant to be heard!

what type of digital recorder to you have?? tell me, tell me! it's cool that you can play all of those instruments.

i'm a keyboardist. all the rest of my "instrumentalists" are: proteus 1, proteus 2, roland xv-3080, kurzweil micropiano, alesis quadra-synth, and my drummer, roland dm-pro. i used steinberg's sx program to sequence, record and mix this song. used steinberg's wavelab to "master" the song and convert to an internet ready mp3 file.

again, please feel free to post your creative endeavors on this thread! share your talent!

Hi, Ted. Impressive set-up you got there.

My recorder is a Roland 1680 -- my favorite-ever little toy. Has 16 virtual tracks per primary track, four stereo efx processors, mix automation, scrub functions, mastering tool kit, etc. Love that thang!

The keyboard is a Korg N5EX. Very nice strings, nice organs and drums / percussion, okay pianos, sucky horns, but good overall textures and other miscellaneous sounds.

Maybe we should do a collaboration. Does your new composition have a real bass in it or key bass? If you send me a CD without the bass track (and a quickie chart -- chords only), I'd be happy to lay down a couple of options for you. Will have some time in a couple of weeks. PM me if you'd like to give that a go.

Did three jingles for a local company a few years back. Never got airplay, but they use them at seminars, internal meetings, and the like.

This stuff is so much fun!

    Keep it goin!
