nervous breakdown....

  1. just wanted to share that I am having a freaking nervous breakdown
just kidding but seriously it is so freakin noisy and chaotic here ,poor wendles is running around like a maniac, we are shortstaffed , there are IV pumps beeping, feeding pumps beeping, patients screaming (No I'm not torturing anyone despite how it sounds) and I just took five minutes to come here and say that I wish I was cavorting with all of you instead of working right now..
I love my job but I hate this noise
my ears are RINGING , I feel like I've been to too many rock concerts ...cept I havent!
this is like an episode of seinfeld..
I feel like kramer, running around and bumping into things
we even have a doctor that looks like newman
    helllllllllllo newman!!!

Wendy, just put on your sparkly slippers and click three times...and presto...you're outta there.

But really hang in there, just imagine the nice soft bed you have waiting for you in a few hours.

Wendy, I hear you! The biggest problems I am having adjusting from nights to evenings myself is the NOISE and the lights! I find I come home from work and veg out in the quiet for about an hour or so..... it's the only thing keeping me sane.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about. I think I'm gonna bring ear plugs to work today.

    I'm sorry, what?

Wendy, I know how you feel, did you ever go home and wake up hearing a IV beeping only to find it was your alarm clock? or answer you home phone ICU? Sounds like you need a much deserved vacation.

try to keep a cool head Wendy!
"alles geht vorbei" as we say here, "everything goes on", meaning life goes on.
Want a few neat words (NOT) in German? Scheißdreck or Schweinehund.
    Take care of yourself girl!!

I feel your (ear) pain, Wendy! The noise pollution on the Med/Surg floor where I work evening shift has really been adding to my stress levels lately, as if I needed anything else. We have locking med. carts inside locked rooms that beep three times REALLY LOUDLY before they re-lock every 30 seconds or so. You can get them to quit beeping by tapping the cart, and I've been known to slam and kick the heck out of it when things are getting tense. I've even contemplated vandalism to stop the beeping. (I've contacted a manager to get someone to disable the beeps, and I get, "We're working on it." )

We also have a new callbell system and the sound the callbells make are especially loud and grating-- Maybe it's incentive to get us to answer more quickly. I even tried covering the machine up with bath blankets to help muffle the noise. Add to that the IV pumps, the feeding pumps, loud conversations going on between the Unit Clerk and housekeeping, patients yelling, etc., and I'll be wearing earplugs to work tomorrow, too!

    Eh???

How I wish we all were co-workers! The NOISE we would make laughing (and moaning) would be welcome, supportive and uplifting.

And together, NOBODY would push us around...cranky docs and ER transporters better beware!

ummm,... guess you can tell my day wasn't the greatest either.

    I need a nap.

Been there, done that.... The alarm clock will keep ringing and I keep thinking why in the he** doesn't someone answer the call light? Then it dawns on me that it is the alarm clock and I have to answer it.....

I have also answer my home phone as "Med Surg, this is Becky. How can I help you?" Get some strange replies to that one.....

Wendy, I feel for you. Sometimes the noise level at work can drive a person right over the edge...I get home and don't want to hear one more sound!! I really think our society suffers from noise pollution.....hang in there...this too shall pass...(and if it doesn't, invest in some really good earplugs...)....
